She just seemed to be getting more beautiful as she got older. Sadly, I believe that had she lived (and no, I don’t think she was murdered.I believe it was an accidental overdose although her house was definitely bugged and the CIA were watching her every move) she would have become a grotesque parody of herself.(She’d lost a lot of weight for Somethings Gotta Give and consequently those famous breasts got smaller. She was seriously considering surgical enhancement and god knows what path that would have lead her down) A parody of a parody, since her screen persona was entirely artificial, created by Monroe so successfully that everyone believed it was really her. In reality, she was smart. Smart but uneducated. Here’s a quote – “I wanted to be better than I was. I felt like a person wearing a cheap suit of clothes.” A dumb blonde (yes, I know she wasn’t blonde either) doesn’t come out with something like that. Then there was the mental illness to contend with. Her horrific childhood circumstances, her vulnerability and latterly her narcissism and the toxic environment of Hollywood (if you’re not strong enough to deal with it), all conspired to destroy her. Sad. Very sad.
