… but if they were, wouldn’t it still be illegal? She goes into the fact that it’s not a “get rich quick” scheme or that they have positive motives but that doesn’t negate the fact their actions might still violate the law as currently written. I am operating under the assumption that a prohibition against selling fetal tissue means that the organization is required to sell fetal tissue at cost, and that opponents are contending that Planned Parenthood is selling above cost and generating a profit.

It comes down to interpretation. 42 U.S. Code 289g covers the prohibitions regarding human fetal tissue and states that, “It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human fetal tissue for valuable consideration if the transfer affects interstate commerce.” The valuable consideration is the sticking point. What’s “valuable consideration”? How much over cost crosses over to “valuable consideration”?
I’m not invested in this either way just enjoy the legal interpretation arguments.
ah, it seems you’ve unfortunately taken their straw man argument as an item of fact, which is what they were hoping….there was no money exchanged for the tissue itself, just the safe transport and expenses that were compensated for. From what I’ve read else where PP was losing money for most of those transactions.

it’s a good article, the problem remains that it’s an icky subject to discuss, and very difficult to discuss fully in the typical 30 second sound bite they may be able to get
