    So use the non-scary-looking gun.

    See, that wasn’t so hard.

    faithless

Well, thanks for telling us the innocent-looking gun is just as bad as the bad-ass looking one. Now we can ensure you gun-boiz aren’t able to own either.

    A&L

and I bet you actually think criminals will obey gun control laws
you’re a special kind of stupid, aren’t you?

    TGGeko

Most guns used in crimes were originally purchased through legal means. Restricting guns that can be purchased legitimately hinders the criminal’s ability to arm himself. Don’t we both want that?

    downvotethis

Most guns used in crimes are also handguns too, so why is the country arguing about semi-automatic rifles?

    outlanderssc

I don’t recall a single mass killing in the last decade that used only a pistol. Mass shooters want lots of rounds, they know they’ll get hit when they stop to reload. They might have a pistol as backup, but most use an assault rifle with a big magazine. They want to keep shooting.

Drug dealers and punks use pistols, easy to conceal
    and dispose of.

    storminator

Tuscan, AZ… January, 2011. Gabby Giffords. Six people killed- all with a single Glock pistol. Ringing any bells?

    Nurgen

“I don’t recall a single mass killing in the last decade that used only a pistol.”

So what? The percentage of deaths caused by firearms that are part of “mass killings” is so small that it can be removed by rounding. The knee-jerk reaction to one recent event while ignoring ongoing issues is just plain idiotic.

    HoChunk

Hey guess what: the scarier-looking weapon can also fire multiple rounds with a single trigger-pull, and hold many more of those rounds in its magazine. It can kill many more people much more quickly. Way to leave out the math.

And what the fuck are cars even DOING in this idiotic “comparison”…? Does the wizard who cooked this shit up seriously think they’re trying to ban automatic weapons are based on how they look?

    bs

No they can’t. Both are semi-automatic. Full automatic’s are already illegal.

    gx5000

and easy enough to convert to full auto, but ignore that little fact…

    mavplays

No, they can’t. That’s like saying it is easy to convert a 5 speed stick shift to an automatic transmission. blog.robballen.com/Post/3239/gun-myths-the-easy-conversion-to-full-auto

And besides, both guns are semi auto. People can still but semi auto guns, they aren’t banned. So even if you were right, the legislation did nothing to prevent people from buying guns that can be so “easily” converted to full auto.

    Carnito

Yeah, it’s easy to convert a rifle to full-auto.
All you need is a CNC machine, several years of experience working with metals, be a gunsmith, and a criminal. That’s all you need.

There are 30-round magazines for the Mini-14 also. The one in the picture just happens to be holding the 5-round, flush-fit magazine, if any.

    mavplays

None of what you said is true whatsoever. You are describing a fully auto weapon, which have been banned in the US for years. Both of those guns are semi auto, meaning that they shoot one bullet per trigger pull. Both of those guns can be outfitted with higher capacity magazines. Would you like to see the difference between a Ruger 10/22 and the exact same gun with a tactical kit? modernsurvivalonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ruger_banner.jpg Those are literally the exact same gun. Even if both guns had the same magazine size, one is legal to buy now and one isn’t, which is dumb… Read more »

They are literally the exact same gun. Just like I am literally the same person whether I’m wearing an overcoat or a leather jacket. And way to try and point out a word usage that isn’t even wrong instead of actually trying to defend your point.

    HoChunk

Are twin brothers literally the same person? Are you literally the same person you used to be, if your arms & legs have been replaced with prosthetic limbs? There is enough obvious difference between those two guns –even if the differences are superficial– that makes calling them “literally” the same gun ridiculous on the face of it. It’s like saying two different people are literally the same because they can do the same things. They are two different guns. Period. If you wanted to make more sense, you could simply have said “they are for all intents & purposes the… Read more »

Won’t let me reply to you on your post, so I’m replying here. “Are twin brothers literally the same person? Are you literally the same person you used to be, if your arms & legs have been replaced with prosthetic limbs?” No, twins are different people. Yes, I am the same person before and after I have prosthetic limbs. Same name, same social security number. Under the law, that is the same gun, it has the same serial number, it has just had some cosmetic changes. Since we are talking about gun legislation here I thought that would be a… Read more »

But assault weapons can be fired from the hip and folding stocks make them easier to conceal. It’s not always about firepower. Even with the exact same round to a mass shooter an assault rifle has big benefits.

    mavplays

You are absolutely right sir. I was just pointing out the ignorance of the previous poster.

    storminator

That’s pretty funny. I have a 10/22 and it looks almost exactly like the second photo! I have an ammo can filled with 30 round and 50 round magazines. And, I also have a book with detailed drawings to convert it to selective fire. Single shot, 3 shot burst, Full Auto. All I need is access to a water jet…

    GrandAdmiralThrawn

Both guns are completely legal to buy.

Cars kill more people than guns. That’s why.

    Korinthian

    Challenge accepted.

logic fail again gun nuts, silly gun nuts.

    The King of Nothing

Neither car looks faster to me and if either one of those guns were pointed at me, I wouldn’t give a shit about how powerful or scary it looks even though I would think either one is just as powerful and scary.

hochunk already said my other points.

A determined killer can cause plenty of death without an assault riffle. 2009 – A single gunman, armed with a semi-auto pistol, killed 13 people and wounded 29 others. It is the worst shooting ever to take place on an American military base. 2001 – The attackers on 9/11 didn’t use guns and killed around 3,000 people. 1995 – The Oklahoma City bombing killed 168 people and didn’t involve a firearm. 1991 – The Luby’s massacre using just two 9-mm semiautomatic pistols George Hennard shot 50 people (killing 23). 1986 – Campo Elías Delgado killed 30 people, and wounded 15… Read more »

If both guns are semi-automatic*, then the “gun legislation” is against both guns, regardless of appearance, which nullifies the whole point of this moronic pic.

*here’s a question: can either weapon be easily upgraded to fully automatic?

    gx5000

Many can, and if you can’t there’s someone down the street that can unlock your cell ph..er..I mean get the parts to make your weapon fully auto…or modify the existing parts.

    DaftGhosty

No it isn’t easy. Anyone who tells you other wise watches to much TV. The AR 15 needs a different bolt carrier group for one. For two there is machineing work that has to be done to the lower receiver. Lastly you need different parts for the trigger group, and fire selector switch. All of which will land you in federal prison for 15 years. There is no”guy” down the street who does conversions. Anyone who attempts to provide such a service needs needs to know what they are doing and have a milling machine. Oh and a very loose… Read more »

No it isn’t. There isn’t currently a bill being considered that bans semi auto weapons because that would ban ALL weapons except for pump action shotguns and revolvers. The bill everyone is talking about is the one New York just passed, which bans assault weapons. In the bill, assault weapons are defined as a gun having 2 or more military style features. These features are things like a pistol grip or a flash guard. So under this bill I can have a Ruger 10/22, but if it has a pistol grip and a stabilizer then that gun is illegal, even… Read more »
