I’ve heard about those black-ray players. Good lord that thing must hold terabytes.
I actually had one of those record players — I bought it at a ridiculous discount after Sharp discontinued the line. It actually worked quite well, and I used it well into the early 90s. Of course, I had to cut off the existing plug and wire up a new one to get it to connect to my stereo system, because it wasn’t a standalone component with standard connections — the AutoDisk was a heavily integrated system and the connectors carried not just sound but remote control and god knows what else. Not surprisingly, its components only worked with it unless you hacked them. Way to go, guys. The entire stereo market grew up around common connectors that everyone uses. So obviously the way to dominate that market is to make your stuff unusable by anyone who owns even a single piece of stereo equipment from anyone else.
I actually remember using these. OMG they were terrible.
