    At least up until the late 90`s Baltimore used to blare their ancient civil defense sirens at precisely 1 PM every Friday.And no,I have not the foggiest idea as to why.But it always made my heart skip a beat when it happened.

    Because at least for your parent’s generation, it was also a general, “get off the streets, get away from windows, find a radio and find out what the hell is going on!” siren. Very good for alerting a whole populous that some shit had hit the fan and not to just go about life without figuring out what you were supposed to be avoiding. Very good for atom bombs, terrorist attacks, or natural disasters.     I`m giving away my age with this but I can remember when these sirens meant just that.But in 1997?I tend to think that the Matrix down there might have a point.Baltimore has a nice post apocalyptic vibe about it!
