    breaking the hymen barrier.

the cloud doesn’t really mean the aircraft is breaking the sound barrier. they are called vapor cones and can occur at lower speeds than the speed of sound

    Fish

Top speed of the B52 is about 650 mph/1046 kph, speed of sound is 767 mph/1234 kph.

least six of them fly over my house every day!!! That means N.Korea’s messin’ up! They just showed up the day ‘fore yesterday.

    Fish:
That’s at sea level, where most planes don’t usually fly. Speed of sound varies with altitude. For cruising altitude of most jets, it would be closer to 1100kph/660mph.

Could it not just be exploding?

I think that would be much cooler.

    Lakiamia

If we could drive faster than the speed of sound, could we still hear the radio?

    Sticky

Lakiamia: Probably, considering the air inside of something going the speed of sound, while technically moving, is actually stationary.

    Lakiamia

Sticky: But what if your windows are open?

    Zane

    Um, Photoshop?
Check Google images for sound barrier to see a few more unlikely planes with these vapor cones.

    Nemesis

so if your driving at the speed of light, and you turn your headlights on…do you go back in time?

    Lakiamia

Nemesis: Only if you’re also traveling at the speed of time.

    Nemesis

well how fast is the speed of time? on a wednesday?

    Lakiamia

Nemesis: depends on how close to 5:00 it is and how many customers you got on hold.
(Oh, and FYI, my grandfather and Chuck Yeager were first cousins. So, if you have any questions about breaking the sound barrier….don’t ask me cuz I know fucking nothing.) 😛
