A little advice about history. Don’t just *think about* what the logical event would be and then assume it’s true. Crack a book. There have been volumes written on the USSR’s dramatic economic decline. For years, the people had been going long stretches of time without basic items such as food and soap. Long tomes have been written about how Gorbachev’s reforms strengthened the various puppet governments, many of which spontaneously declared independence, completely destroying the planned economy which had been depended on these Soviets from Stalin’s day, and making it virtually possible to address the problems militarily.

But yeah, I’m sure that was it and none of that other stuff mattered. The Russians saw a picture of the B-2 Spirit – which turned out to be the Gulf War’s biggest publicity blunder, as it didn’t work yet and didn’t end up being used at the time – and they threw up their hands in the air and screamed “That’s it! That plane that doesn’t do anything yet just looks *way too cool*! Let’s give up on this whole communism thing!”

As for fascism, nazism and slavery: Well, I think this overlooks the main reason for being against the current wars. Who started all these wars, just out of curiosity?

This image is already sort-of Godwin’s lawish, so what the fuck: As Eisenhower, the *Republican* president who did a lot to define American strategy during WWII and who was well known for fighting the coldwar diplomatically and winning, and making America the world’s most powerful nation in the process said:

“Preventive war was an invention of Hitler. Frankly, I would not even listen to anyone seriously that came and talked about such a thing.” — Eisenhower

If Eisenhower went in with guns-a-blazing in the fifties, I don’t know what would have happened, but America would *not* currently be a superpower.
