   I would guess based on the shape of the badge that they are from the ANZAC’s? Likely taken on the Somme 1916, just my guess.

   @MyConfinedCanuck: Definitely ANZAC, but it looks a bit dry for the Somme. Gallipoli or Egypt maybe?

   @ DarkDsurion I ruled out Gallipoli as I can’t recall there being any instances of gas being used during that campaign. Also the terrain appears different that the hills and cliffs you would find in Gallipoli. According to their history the ANZACs operated as mounted troops in Egypt after being pulled back from Gallipoli, the battles in the middle east were more fluid without the extensive use of trenches and pillboxes as you would see on the Western Front. The ANZACs were involved in the 1916 Battle of Pozières which took place in July as part of the Somme offensive, it was a primarily Austrailian/ANZAC effort, and the battlefield would have been somewhat dry due to summer weather.

   I might have found the sauce, or at least the sauce that originally sauced the internet with the photograph from the original IRL sauce.

   I haven’t found that particular picture, but was told from a site that was linked from another site, that that was the site of origin, and that site seemed to be full of original information, and therefore I deduced the originality came from said site.

   It entirely depends upon your purpose.

   Are you filtering fart gas, particulate, or NBC?

   Do you need a hood?

   The products from MSA are good, but the US military mark 5 is the best deal for the money (you can get them for nearly nothing 2nd hand).

   The currently military surplus gas mas is good, but make sure that you get a new, current replacement filter with it.. All common filters are now NATO threaded and fit most masks. You should probably get an NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) filter. Masks also come with and without hoods. If you get one without a hood, it’s a lot easier to put on, but doesn’t cover the skin on the back of your neck, or all of the skin under your hair.

    Then you will want to go for an old European gas mask.
