81wmvBMfOL. SL1433 Remember Me game review Gaming game reviews

Neo-Paris. 2084.Personal memories can now be digitized, bought, sold and traded. The last remnants of privacy and intimacy have been swept away in what appears to be a logical progression of the explosive growth of social networks at the beginning of the 21st century. The citizens themselves have accepted this surveillance society in exchange for the comfort only smart technology can provide. This memory economy gives immense power over society to just a handful of people.Remember Me is a 3rd person action adventure where players take on the role of Nilin, a former elite memory hunter with the ability to break into people’s minds and steal or even alter their memories. The authorities, fearful of her knowledge and capabilities have arrested Nilin and wiped her memory clean. After her escape from prison, Nilin sets out on a mission to recover her identity, helped by her last and only friend. This search for her past leads to her being hunted by the very people that created this surveillance society.

I originally skipped over this one because of how confusing the game mechanics seemed from the trailers, and  it seemed like a poor man’s science fiction tale with some obvious parkour lifts from the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Additionally, it’s from Capcom, whom I’ve never really been a fan of their console releases. While I was correct in the Assassin’s Creed similarities, the rest of the game blew me away with how well done it all was. We’re coming up on it’s three year anniversary and I think this is one of the strongest soundtracks and tightest stories that I’ve played in that time period. The soundtrack alone is worth talking about just on it’s own merits. The London Philharmonia Orchestra as directed by Olivier Deriviere performs a set of tracks that were very likely strong and attention grabbing before digital artifacts and looping were added in. It’s the usage of digital glitching coupled with the on screen action that really drew my attention. The combat gets repetitive, but with the battle action tracks that kick in, I never once got bored by it.

I strongly suggest the game to anyone that’s a fan of future city scapes or post apocalyptic stories, as there’s a story here that I found to be unique and captivating.  The best I can describe the soundtrack for anyone that refuses to listen to it is that it’s “classical music as mixed by Daft Punk”.

Pilot your trusty orange vessel through mysterious and foreign planets in this quirky sci-fi adventure. Your mission: fix space-time and search out the scientists lost in the aftermath of the Universe’s Greatest Science Experiment. Aided only by your trusty (if somewhat sandwich-obsessed) guide, you must repair the temporal vortex!

Navigate mind-warping puzzles and engage in strategic battles with bizarre astrobiological creatures in a twisted environment where the turn-based world and the real-time world collide.

As you progress through the universe, you’ll need to protect yourself by collecting new abilities and upgrade modules for your ship, but remember, your greatest weapon is SCIENCE itself!

Grid based cross of Braid, Portal, and some time+turned based game. It was enjoyable for the minor amount of time I could dedicate to it, but never really pulled me in. The soundtrack and sound effect were pretty cool though, so they have that going for them.

Prepare for the bar to be raised on deep-space 2D dog-fighting! GALAK-Z is a modern, A.I. and physics-driven open-world action game, viewed through the lens of the classic 16-bit space shooter. Powered by the next-generation Cyntient AI platform, GALAK-Z puts players in control of anime-inspired spacecraft inhabiting procedurally generated worlds.

In GALAK-Z both stealth and skill are required to defeat truly intelligent enemies. You will be forced to outsmart enemies that think, react and cooperate like seasoned pilots! Master your ship’s sublimely-honed controls as you blast enemies, unleash missile salvos, and even toss your opponents, mech-style, to their explosive demise.

Recently added, Arcade Mode lets you replay failed missions any number of times without losing all of your saved progress. Rogue Mode retains GALAK-Z’s original white-knuckle roguelike challenge that harkens back to the 16-bit era of gaming. Rogue mode will always be available if and when you’re looking to test your skill and bravery by putting everything on the line, every mission.

Players will be forced to outmaneuver, outgun and outsmart enemies that think, react and cooperate like seasoned pilots. Both stealth and skill are required to defeat enemy squads in a brutal game of cat and mouse. Prepare for an enemy that comes alive like never before!

Exclusive Guest Star: Juan from Guacamelee featured as an enemy unit in the game!
New The Void DLC w/ endless gameplay and Online Leaderboards and a Daily Challenge
ARCADE mode with per-Mission checkpoints
Procedurally-assembled levels
Physics based combat simulator!
Advanced enemy A.I for intense dogfights!
Scripted missions and ‘roguelite’ structure
Resource-based, progressive weapons system
Inspired by 70s / 80s anime and arcade shooters

Part Macross, part Voltron, part twin stick shooter, and an awesome soundtrack. I’ve played a few missions and by golly these sure were fun.

I think the trailer really speaks for itself, but just in case it didn’t really speak to you, let me tell you: this is a low budget game that has a slightly interesting premise. I didn’t enjoy it.

The award-winning Star Trek game casts players for the first time ever as Kirk and Spock in a totally original co-op experience worthy of gamers and fans. Set in the new canon of director and producer J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek (2009) reboot, players will be immersed in the game’s rich story and action-packed combat.

Under development by acclaimed Ontario-based developers Digital Extremes (Bioshock 2, Dark Sector, The Darkness 2), Star Trek features an original story by BAFTA award winner and God of War writer, Marianne Krawczyk, in collaboration with the writer/producers of the new Star Trek films, Bob Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof.

This game got knocked hard when it game out a couple years ago, but frankly I’m scratching my head as to why. I’m not the greatest fan of the alternate reality crew, but this game isn’t the horrible thing that I was made to think it was. Looking over the metacritic reviews, it looks like the complaints are about co-op not working at release, crap graphics and linear story telling. The co-op was addressed within a week or so of release and the graphics, while nothing to really sing about are what you would expect for a movie tie in game for the xbox 360. I played it on the PC though, so for me the graphics were pretty damn good.

The story is linear, there’s no way to get around that though, not with the type of story that they’re trying to tell in this. They expertly captured the feel and pace of the two movies, for better or worse. The game is set after the first movie and you’re helping the Vulcans do their thing and the Gorn come in and kick sand in everyone’s faces. Queue intergalactic fights and you get your quick and easy video game.

For $60, I’d be bitching, but I got this for $4 on steam a few months ago. My big complaint? the damn mini games, they were waaaay too repetitive, seemed like every door had one or two. Major props though for having the original cast reprising their roles, that was pretty damn cool.

  • Addictive open world RPG style gameplay that allows characters to go anywhere throughout the game’s zombie infested environments
  • A variety of distinct characters including the four surviving characters from the first game (Xian Mei, Sam B, Logan Carter, and Purna), as well as a brand new character
  • A variety of vehicle types, new levels and weather conditions, weapon proficiency (melee and projectile weapons), Hub defense game mechanics
  • Evolved, and engrossing multiplayer, including co-op support

Did you play the first Dead Island?  Did you enjoy it?  This is more of the same, with little to no new mechanics or story line innovation.  The parts with the boat at the very beginning were interesting, but that was about it.   I enjoyed it for what it was, but it wasn’t very interesting and it too me and my co-op partner nearly 2 months to get through the story, it was that boring.
