    Well, there are the:
    – God listens to all prayers, but sometimes the answer is “no”,
    – It’s the devil work
    “cards”.

    Korinthian

It’s quite obvious that some genie in the sky isn’t granting wishes, but many Christians have made excuses in the line of “oh, but prayer isn’t about asking for things, it’s about *communication*”.

In other words: “screw what the bible says, I’m going rogue!”

This is what bothers me about “Internet Atheists”, they complain about how theists don’t make even a passing attempt at understanding reality and then go and make ignorant statements like this one that don’t make even a passing attempt at understanding the theist’s reasoning.

Here’s the detail that the text forgets: theists believe in “free will”. They weren’t praying for god to change the ballots or the numbers in computers totaling the votes, they were praying for god to enlighten the heathens and give them the wisdom to choose “the right guy”. The thing is that, though god could’ve changed their minds as easily as a computer nerds changes his desktop wallpaper, he chooses not to because the “free will” thing. So even if god could have changed the outcome of the election, he thought that allowing the humans the freedom to choose wrongly was more important than having the “right guy” at president. So it’s not about god being all powerful or not, it’s about god knowing the difference between “can”, and “should”.

And FYI, I’m an atheist, just not an Internet Atheist. (And no, there’s no such thing as free will in a deterministic universe.)

    Korinthian

If I can figure out a way to change who gets to be president without impeding on anyone’s free will, then I’m sure a god could too.

    Just saying.

God didn’t do a good enough job enlightening the heathens.
Perhaps because in this instance he seems to have farmed out the enlightening work to Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers.
He did send a hurricane, but that only served to point out how stupid Romney’s FEMA plans were and how good Obama was at getting things done.

    no

‘they were praying for god to enlighten the heathens and give them the wisdom to choose “the right guy”.’

I don’t think its about right and wrong when they complain it wasn’t the one they wanted.

An “atheist” simply says, I choose this – let’s tally up the votes. Okay he got more votes – he gets to be president for four years.

An “internet atheist” goes on to make long drawn out explanations about free will, choices, god/gods, wisdom, enlightenment, deterministic universe, computer nerd examples, desktop wallpapers, human freedom, the “right guy”, “can” and “should”, etc., etc., etc.

And FYI, everyone now gets to choose who you are – an “atheist” or an “internet atheist”.

Actually being an atheist has nothing to do with the vote process. They don’t think a certain way.

Atheist means a person doesn’t believe in a god. Its not a religion, or a way of life. Its just one small personal opinion which doesn’t actually effect anything.

I voted for Obama in 2008, didn’t think he did such a great job in the last four years, and said I probably wouldn’t vote for him this time. BAM suddenly I’m a member of the KKK, a racist hate monger, and a typical white voter. I knew the race card would get played, but it got played pretty hard.

    Korinthian

In 2008 you were a racist towards white people. I hope you’re proud of yourself.

What I don’t get is if someone kills someone that’s because God gave us free will, but if someone dies naturally it’s all part of God’s plan.

How can I have free will if I’m part of God’s plan?

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president.”

I can never remember if that’s the whiny weasel or the guy that thinks quantum things explains god, morals and why people should give him money.

What’s disturbing is, which the idiot who quoted this is probably a troll. The idiot who originally said it is not.

These people are tribal-minded cowards. Anything that is not “them” is the “other” and is the “enemy” and it terrifies them. They are of the tyranny of the bigots and close-minded.

The ultra religious people always have a reason. If Romney won, it was God listening to their prayers. If he didn’t, it was because of the evil people and abortions, and he’s punishing us.

They can always spin it. There’s literally no way of arguing it with them.
