Database Corruption and New Feature

Sometime in the last week one of the tables on the MCS database got borked. You might have noticed that the ratings and some of the thumbnails were not showing up the way they were intended.  I’ve been able to repair the table, but all the ratings information and thumbnail creation during that time was lost.  This means that the 100+ submissions that were sent in are sitting there with no thumbnails, so I’m going to be processing them by hand later today.  If you’ve submitted something in the last week, it won’t show up on your submissions list due to the table crash, but it’ll likely hit the site sometime after the 1st.

There’s two new features to speak of:

The Random Posts is back, albeit in a different format.  The reason it went away before is the code I was using was making calls to the DB with every page load, and it was killing the server.  Now, if you look right under the site title, you’ll see a link that says “Random Image”.  If you click on that, you’ll be randomly sent to a one of the over 14,200 posts on MCS.  I can’t guarantee that it won’t be NSFW yet, but that’s something to work on for the future.  Feel free to open the link in a dozen or 20 tabs (middle click ftw).  I did this for about an hour or so last night and it was glorious.  The reason I brought back this cool feature?  Theme day is coming back ya’ll. So if you don’t like the images that are being posted on the 1st, please feel free to take a trip down memory lane.

Finally, I’ve changed the way the logins work.  Previously you had to go to a different dedicated login screen, which I’ve always hated.  Now the login form is in the left sidebar, and you shouldn’t leave the page that you’re currently on.  So for all your people that love to comment, this should make your life much easier.
