Eta Carinae

Eta Carinae, a hypergiant luminous blue variable star in the Carina constellation and one of the most massive and most luminous stars yet discovered, and the bipolar Homunculus Nebula which surrounds it. The nebula was partly created in an eruption of Eta Carinae, whose light reached Earth in 1843. Eta Carinae itself appears as the white patch near the center of the image, where the 2 lobes of the Homunculus touch.

Piglet Squid

Piglet Squid, Helicocranchia pfefferi: This funny looking squid is about the size of a small avocado and can be found most commonly in the deepwater (greater than 100 m or 320 ft) of virtually all oceans. My Pet Kittens – Lucy and Ethel

Wild pets…..

Wild, as in wandered in off the tropical forest and ended up on my stoop. The first is a Rajah Brooke butterfly. The second is a weaver bird. It weaves a beautiful hanging nest with many compartments.

Thought it would be nice to see something other than dogs, cats and ferrets.

My dog, Pu-chan

This is my Shiba Inu…my mom got her when we both lived in Japan. I moved back to Japan and she’s still in the states living with my mom. She’s about 10 years old now, she’s a bitch, literally and figuratively. Sometimes she’ll go crazy on you. But when you’re not up to par, she’s your best friend.

My Cat “Knuckles” on my Workspace

Very late submission, but it covers two themes. I named him Knuckles due to the fact that he has extra toes/thumbs on his front paws. These thumbs come in handy when he needs to pick things up or open doors/cupboards. I’m sure that one day he’ll burn the house down after he figures out how to use a lighter.

Jacksonville NAS Air Show 2008

These are some edited shots from what I took Sunday during the Jacksonville NAS Air Show 2008. I’ve got something like 800 pictures to upload to Flickr later this week. Just check out my Flickr account for updates. Some are not so good shots, and you won’t believe how many beautiful shots of empty sky I got. I did damn near fill my 4 gig card, which I wasn’t expecting to do.

The first shot is of a P3 Orion that they maintain out of this NAS. The second is a rendering of the new P8 that they will be maintain as they retire the P3’s. I’m not exactly likely the fact that jets will be replacing turbo props, but I’m told that they will actually be quieter by a couple of people that work on them. What I really don’t get is that I know I’ve seen the P8s flying out, so I don’t understand why we didn’t see a real one.

The last two are of the Blue Angels as examples of what I could actually make out from the previews. The originals are 7 megapixels, so preview on this 1280×800 screen, even full screen is pretty bad.

Not a whole lot of new hardware to show, they didn’t even have a static F22, and I don’t even flew one (I was late getting there, so they may have flew one). I guess FedEx was a sponsor, since they had a DC10 there. Flew in one, seen the picture of the engine falling off, been there, done that.
