War For The Planet Of The Apes review

This reboot of the Planet of the Apes movie series has a weird trend of getting better with each sequel, this is the best of the three that have been released. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was ok but felt like it was trying too hard and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes felt like they were finding the right thread but weren’t able to follow it all the way through correctly. They’re taking a slightly longer cycle to put out each sequel, three years instead of the normal two, and I think that’s helping with the story polish that’s so evident.
War For The Planet Of The Apes isn’t the movie that you see in the trailers, there’s much more plot going on here than I thought they were going to get into with plenty of moral grey areas that everyone goes right up to and ponders the possible fallout of crossing lines that shouldn’t be crossed.

Michelle Rodriguez is a hit man out for revenge against her former captor and rogue surgeon, Sigourney Weaver, in this action packed thriller from legendary director Walter Hill.
This a bad film, but it’s one of those bad films that’s so terribly thought out and horribly executed and so unaware of itself that it comes around the curve to be a great film to drink and scream outloud to.
Spoilers because idgaf: You see Michelle Rodriguez full frontal nude as both a man with a giant swinging dick and as a woman after a diabolical surgeon turns “him” into a woman without his approval. Rodriguez is justifiably upset about this transition and sets out to find some justice at the end of her 45s. The story means nothing after the first 20 minutes of nudity and questionable career choices and the action is not very great.
What the fuck? Rodriguez is a beautiful woman, even as a man. They didn’t even bother to butch her up even slightly, just throwing an incredibly ineffective beard on her and a good looking prosthetic man piece.
I’m really not sure how anyone convinced Rodriguez to play the unwilling transgendered hitman and THEN able to convince Sigourney Weaver to play the mobster / evil surgeon. It’s on Amazon Prime right now, so feel free to check it out and get back to me about how you feel.

ACLU to the rescue? Good film but there were parts that felt…off. Not sure if it was acting, directing, or editing related, but there were definitely moments that I was taken out of the movie with the feeling that it was a modern movie that was talking about the time period instead of the actual events themselves.

Academy Award Winner Reese Witherspoon (Walk The Line) stars in this extraordinary true story from the director of Dallas Buyers Club and based on the best-selling novel.
This one sat on my ‘to watch’ pile for longer than I can justify, it was a good enough film, but I know that it was going to cover some subjects that weren’t going to help my emotional state of well being. I was right, but I’m happy to have watched the movie.

A perfect role for Aubrey Plaza, this is the second bit of media that i’ve seen her taking crazy pills in, the first being LEGION. She really does play crazy very well, though it would be great to see her get back to a role like she had in Parks & Rec, I really did love her there.

I honestly didn’t think I was going to watch this today, I was bored and needed something to occupy my mind and turned on broadcast tv and watched this on on the “Charge” Network*, which broadcasts in low rez SD widescreen, but not in HD and chose to show the film in pan & scan. I haven’t seen a movie that was in forever and it was weird. But then I noticed that Marlon Brando was playing a “regulator”, which is what a vigilante was called in ye olde’ west, who was going up against a gang of horse rustlers lead by Jack Nicholson. Ends up it was a good film and I didn’t even think about the weird movie ratio until well after the movie was over.
*Shame about that Sinclair bit, I think I’ve heard they’re the next right wing insanity that’s on the horizon.
Charge! is an American digital broadcast television network that is owned by the Sinclair Television Group subsidiary of the Sinclair Broadcast Group and operated by the MGM Television division of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The network features action- and adventure-based programming sourced primarily from the MGM television and film library.

Mayhem review

I picked this up after hearing about it on a Red Letter Media video, they had mentioned that it was better than The Belko Experiment, which I enjoyed. As much as I enjoyed Belko, Mayhem really is a great riff on the same concepts, though there’s obviously different starting points, they both end up with people stuck in a building killing each other, in Belko unwillinging and in Mayhem as zombies. Sorta zombies. Transitional zombies?
Regardless, I enjoyed it, have you seen it, any thoughts?

Collateral Beauty review

Will Smith can act the shit out of anything and he really did a great job with Collateral Beauty. I was incredibly unhappy with the ending of the film though, I really felt like it cheapened the entire film to have connections where there should not have been any.
The Tick 2001 review

Featuring Joe Swanson as The Tick. His real name is Patrick Warburton, but everyone know his voice from Family Guy at this point. It’s obvious that there was a budget on this series, it only ran for nine episodes and I don’t think I saw a major fight or special effect the entire time.
Imagine if Seinfeld was in a blue rubber suit and Elane was running around in a sexy captain america costume and that’s what this basically ends up being. Not a bad series but it definitely shows both it’s low budget and it’s age.

Absurdist humor from some absolutely amazing actors well into their prime, I’m sad I hadn’t watched this before now, I really enjoyed the movie and all of it’s assorted endings.

Included in Amazon Prime, that robot is both cheap looking and terrifying. The story isn’t much to talk about and the actors were present while the cameras were running, but there was definitely something missing in the mix here.
