  • The Maze Runner The Death Cure review

91q2t5HUhVL. SL1500 768x1024 The Maze Runner: The Death Cure

In the epic Maze Runner conclusion, Thomas leads the Gladers on their final mission – they must break into the legendary Last City, which turns out to be the deadliest maze of all!

I enjoyed the book this was based off of for the most part, but this movie really didn’t do the mediocre book justice. There were several points in the movie in which I had legitimate sympathy for an organization literally named “wicked”, they seemed to be the only people in the entire story that were sincerely trying to save the majority of humanity from the scourge of a horrifying plague. This was a pretty film with some well done set pieces, the final battles on the streets were particularly impressive, but the plot execution just didn’t impress me in the least.

There’s only one more book in the series that they could adapt and that’s a prequel with none of the current characters, though I’m sure if they do that story they’ll be able to shoehorn them in somehow, ala The Hobbit.

As a side note, this was the third film that I’ve seen with my MoviePass subscription, which is going well enough.

    Gifted review

    918o9e1STLL. SL1500 751x1024 Gifted

In this wonderfully moving film, a single man (Chris Evans) strives to give his child prodigy niece (Mckenna Grace) a normal life, despite interference from the girl’s grandmother.

In a shocking movie, Chris Evans stars in a movie that isn’t featuring him as Captain America, but instead the uncle to a kids that’s too precocious for her own good and a grandmother that’s too stuck up her own ass to really care about what she’s doing to the kid.

This was a great movie and really shows Chris Evan’s acting range.

    Demolition review

    91OoiiNw4nL. SL1500 768x1024 Demolition

Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts co-star in the gripping story of a troubled man who starts to rebuild his life after forming an unlikely connection with a struggling single mother.

Jake Gyllenhaal did a great job as a dude coming unhinged, but then finding something to attach to after flailing about for half a movie, desperate for answers after a horrible tragedy. Not a safe movie for anyone that’s lost a loved one recently, but this is a great movie that deserves your attention.

Live Die Repeat Edge of Tomorrow review

A1WsLOeIWgL. SL1500 810x1024 Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow

Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) and a Special Forces soldier (Emily Blunt) team up to fight a hostile alien race, with Cage continually returning to a fatal battle through a time loop.

The movie so great they gave it two names! Edge of Tomorrow is what I seent in the movie theaters and I found a UV code for like $2, so I bought it and watched it. It’s still a great groundhog day movie with a time traveling alien military scifi twist.

    Allied review

When Intelligence Officer Max Vatan (Brad Pitt) learns his wife (Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard) may be conspiring with the enemy, he has only 72 hours to prove her innocence and save his family before he must do the unthinkable.

Brad Bitt and Marion Cotillard absolutely killed it in this story, absolutely fantastic performances from both of them with a story that I didn’t fully expect from the trailers. Well worth your time to check out Allied!
