    91xXKB1QZxL. SL1500 725x1024 Final Girl

Veronica, a teenage girl who’s new to town is lured out into the woods by a group of senior boys who hunt and kill girls for sport. Little do they know, Veronica is an assassin-in-training.

There’s entirely way too many moving parts in the first act. I have many questions, like:

    1. Why do we meet the girl when she’s 8 and not 18?
    2. Why is there a random love story thrown in at the end of act 1?
    3. Why do the guys want to kill blonde girls in the forest?
    4. How did no one care that TWENTY WOMEN IN THEIR SMALL TOWN WERE DEAD.
    5. Why did they introduce a RANGER CHOKE HOLD if the girl wasn’t going to use it at every opportunity?
    6. How did the girl get the final guy up in the noose? was she holding him the entire time he was unconscious? and let him go when he woke up?

Oh god. I have like 30 more questions. This was a fun movie to watch, but you really have to turn off your brain.

Abigail Breslin is pretty cute and they really ramp up the blue in her eyes in nearly every scene, which was very captivating.

    91XjhVJFTXL. SL1500 726x1024 Self/Less

A billionaire (Ben Kingsley) undergoes a procedure that transfers his consciousness into young man’s body (Ryan Reynolds) and uncovers a conspiracy with the body’s origin.

For a movie that seemed to drop off the radar rather quickly, this turned out to be an entertaining ride. Perhaps no one was ready for yet another ‘Ryan Reynolds in someone else’s body‘ films? Unlike The Change-Up, Self/Less takes a pretty hard science fiction view on the matter. Good action, good acting (Ryan Reynolds can do no wrong!) and just long enough to not overstay it’s welcome.  It’s good to be reminded too that Ben Kingsley is an amazing actor, especially after Iron Man 3 left such a bad taste in my mouth, primarily due to his character.

    61CIvaC9j8L The BFG

Disney presents a Roald Dahl classic directed by Steven Spielberg. When a young girl crosses paths with a mysterious Giant, she’s launched on an adventure filled with magic, wonder and unexpected friendship in this imaginative tale.

For many of us that grew up playing video games, BFG means something significantly different than what The BFG is referencing. I wasn’t familiar with the novel this movie is sourced from (“The Big Friendly Giant“). The story is pretty nonsensical, but in a certain light makes a small amount of sense. The animation was impressive, just on the right side of the uncanny valley. Happy to have watched it with my wife, she had read the book during her formative years, so it was good to get someone’s opinion that had high expectations. (she liked it too!)
