  • “Family Guy” Something Something Something Dark Side

Directed by Dominic Polcino, James Purdum, Peter Shin. With Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis. Peter makes good on another power outage at home by retelling Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

I’m still waiting for that third one, and now that Family Guy and Star Wars are owned by the same companies, maybe we’ll see it? or is it less likely now that Disney owns them both and it’s not just up to Lucas Films any more?

Twitter Blames Mobile Carrier for Dorseys Vulgar Account Hack

(Bloomberg) — Twitter Inc. blamed Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey’s mobile phone carrier for a hack of his Twitter account that sent out a stream of offensive tweets on Friday.“The phone number associated with the account was compromised due to a security oversight by the mobile provider,” Twitter

This is why you should not use your phone as your two factor authentication device, it’s better to use a software based solution like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.

A hardware/software solution is even better like a keyfob.

  • Light of My Life

Directed by Casey Affleck. With Anna Pniowsky, Casey Affleck, Tom Bower, Elisabeth Moss. Parent and child journey through the outskirts of society a decade after a pandemic has wiped out half the world’s population. As a father struggles to protect his child, their bond, and the character of humanity, is tested.

Post Apocalypse, a father and his young child roam the roads and backwoods of America, just trying to survive each day. Sure, you’ve likely seen movies with this exactly premise, but the premise never gets old when you have such high quality acting and set pieces like “Light of My Life”. No one ever does anything stupid and everything goes the way you’d expect it to, with some fun and entertaining surprises along the way.

    My Dad who plays golf

I always asked dad why he bought an extra pair of socks when he played golf. Told me in case he got a hole in one.

    Venom

A failed reporter is bonded to an alien entity, one of many symbiotes who have invaded Earth. But the being takes a liking to Earth and decides to protect it.

Bought it in 4k in a cheap sale, but man this movie is both good and bad. If you forget that the character was a mass murderer in the comics and routinely killed people just for the sport of it, then forget that there’s a man in there under all that goop, sure it’s an ok movie.

But it’s hard to forget those things, isn’t it?

    The Matrix

Directed by Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski. With Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving. A computer hacker learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against its controllers.

My wife and I went to see this in the Dolby Theater for the 20 year anniversary of it’s release. Back in 1999 I was a freshmen in college without many pennies to rub together, so I missed it’s theatrical release and only watched it after downloading it from some file share service, either FTP or Limewire or something of it’s ilk. It was one of my first downloaded movies and both how I got it and it movie itself blew my mind. Seeing it in theaters was a great experience this time around, even if I did just watch it a couple months ago when I bought the 4k disc, which was an upgrade from my blueray set, which in turn was an upgrade from my highbit DVDs.

LEGO DC Batman – Family Matters

Directed by Matt Peters. With Troy Baker, Steve Blum, Zach Callison, Cam Clarke. In LEGO DC: Batman – Family Matters, suspicion is on high after Batman, Batgirl, Robin and other DC superheroes receive mysterious invitations. However, family values must remain strong when Batman and his team encounter the villainous Red Hood, who is obsessed with destroying the Bat-family and all of Gotham City.

How does a LEGO kid’s film deal with the death of Robin? In the comics the character is beaten to death with a crowbar by the Joker, then Batman goes on a murderous revenge spree that’s only stopped by Superman himself!

The movie is less gory about the details and there’s plenty of laughs to be had instead of shocked screams of horror, I found myself actually liking this version of the “Death In The Family” storyline, which was briefly touched on here in the LEGO film. It has more story content from when the Red Hood showed back up and everyone was trying to figure out who he was.

    Dad gets some ink

A man visits a tattoo parlor with a rather simple, but strange request. He requests a short, straight line tattooed on his upper arm.

Once the first tattoo heals, he returns, asking for another, exactly the same as the first.

After a few more visits, it becomes clear to the tattoo artist that he’s tattooing tally marks on the customer’s arm.

Curiosity getting the better of the tattoo artist, he asks, “What are you counting?”

The man answers, “How many tattoos I have.”
