Explanation: Every eleven years, our Sun goes through a solar cycle. A complete solar cycle has now been imaged by the sun-orbiting SOHO spacecraft, celebrating the 12th anniversary of its launch yesterday. A solar cycle is caused by the changing magnetic field of the Sun, and varies from solar maximum, when sunspot, coronal mass ejection, and flare phenomena are most frequent, to solar minimum, when such activity is relatively infrequent. Solar minimums occurred in 1996 and 2007, while the last solar maximum occurred in 2001. This picture is composed of a SOHO image of the Sun in extreme ultraviolet light for each year of the last solar cycle, with images picked to illustrate the relative activity of the Sun.

The end of the world is 2012 … right, as soon as I believe that is when I get fitted for a tin foil hat. Just because some bare footed, coca leaf chewing, non-wheel using, child sacrificing failure of a civilization says the world is going to end because they got tired of making calendars out of rock, doesn’t make them any more accurate about predicting the “end” then all the other fools throughout the centuries. Also, Mr. Sun has gone to “solar max” over 900 times in the last 10,000 years and the world hasn’t end yet because of it, so why now?

Just exactly what this new age entails is anyone’s guess. Personally, I think it meant that they’d have to carve a new calendar. In Reality, well, that’s the date of the Winter Solstice (but that doesn’t mean much any more).
At various times that year the following events will happen:
433 Eros, the second-largest Near Earth Object on record is expected to pass Earth at a distance of around 16.6 million miles.
Various presidential elections, including the US.
The Kyoto Accords will expire.
A solar and lunar eclipse will happen (though not simultaneously).

Alot of other crap that most people don’t care about.

All I see is something that MIGHT look like a shield to someone who wants desperately for one to be there.
But I remain unconvinced.

Looks like a computer display with a three-pointed thing at the “top” (if you’re facing it, looking right) which is definitely *above* the display. I agree with pauld that you want desperately for it to be there, but it’s just not.
On top of it looking like something other than a shield, I’d have to be convinced that the producers weren’t idiots to put a CA shield there for shits ‘n’ giggles anyway.

I think it’s just a pile of junk that seems to take a vague resemblance of the shield, but it could have been placed like that intentionally, if nothing more to make all you nerds get their hopes up. I think the first is more likely though.

Its sooo Caps shield, Marvel have been gagging to make an Avengers movie. Marvel have a lot planned. They are doing an Antman [Hank Pym] movie and a Thor movie…and there has been speculation of a Captain America film. Wouldn’t all those films have all the charterers required for a classic Avengers movie.
The shield pictured is probably one of the imperfect shields that Tony cloned for S.H.I.E.L.D. Like the one that US agent used.

No doubt about it now. Feel free to speculate as to the why and how, but that is Captain America’s shield on Tony Stark’s work table. Fuck yes.

The makers of the film have confirmed that yes the shield was in the film, but as an easter egg for the fans and nothing more. And it was removed from the trailer for obvious reasons.

Oh I can explain this. There are these two major football teams in Turkey, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. This guy is a Galatasaray fan, red and yellow. Fenerbahce is blue and yellow. These two teams have been rivaling for a long long time. But who’s been fighting more is the fans of both teams, to the extent of hooliganism at every step.
Galatasaray’s mascot is a lion, and Fenerbahce’s mascot is a canary (or some other bird, I’m not sure).
I’m sure the name on the uniform is a bit clearer now.

As my man The Streets says, in British Hip-Hop slang, ho’s are “birds, not bitches.” Turkey is basically European, so if young, hip Turks are listening to English rap, and they see a particularly fine woman walking down the street, they would likely say, “Spot that bird, man? So fine!” and consider themselves quite awesome. Lends a new meaning to, “Oh, honey, I’m just going bird-watching.”
