We have one. We just aren’t flying anybody at the moment. SpaceX is supposed to have flown some people by the end of the year, IIRC.
The Soviet hardware works, certainly. But it’s not exactly cutting edge either.

Space tech and “cutting edge” are kind of an oxymoron.
Because the testing requirement for electronic components are set so high for use in space, new technology is rarely put through the testing.
Instead, just about everything that goes up is made from pre-tested components from the 1970′s.
This was especially true of the Shuttle.
