    “3 Body Problem” Review

3 Body Problem: Created by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Alexander Woo. With Jovan Adepo, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong. A fateful decision made in 1960s China reverberates in the present, where a group of scientists partner with a detective to confront an existential planetary threat.

A fun hard science fiction series that doesn’t stay very jovial for very long and gets right into the hard truths portion fast enough to turn off those that don’t enjoy such things but kept my attention the entire time. I’ve heard so much about the book that I was expecting something much more esoteric than what we ended up with, as a story in a book it’s not all that unique, but as a televised series, I don’t think there’s been much done with relativistic alien invasions or the mismatch of technological levels that only just a couple decades would present. The show is run by the same guys that failed the stick the landing for the final season of Game of Thrones, so if you remember that mess, you can understand my trepidations of how this was going to turn out. If you remember though, they only went off the rails narratively when they lost the foundations of the source material, which isn’t going to be a problem for this series based on a completed book.

I look forward to the future seasons to see what kind of technology story elements are going to get introduced and if they’re going to end up doing any time jumps. Also, I’m super curious about that brain in space, surely it’s not going to be a dangling story thread and will be resolved, right?

Maybe I need to read the (translated) book.
