One hundred years from today, Father – the benevolent artificial intelligence that governs the island nation of Japan – will gain sentience. To defend its borders, Father will take drastic action by launching Japan into space…where its people will thrive in isolation, away from the overpopulated and resource-deprived planet below. Over the centuries, as New Japan orbits our increasingly unstable world, it will become a model society – one built on peace, prosperity… and Father’s control.

I burned through all 16 issues of Rai 4001 AD, the 4001 AD mini series and all it’s associated issues in about 4 days over the Thanksgiving holiday, all from the comfort of my cell phone screen, which obviously was way too small to actually take in the scale of some of the art. Valiant Entertainment is known for their great art direction and this series really re-enforces this, it was gorgeous. More importantly, it was tightly scripted with a clear beginning, middle, and end with enough of an opening for future stories down the road, but not so wide open that the story felt incomplete or too leading.

I look forward to finding a copy of the hardcover of this and adding it to my collection, or maybe even getting the singles of all the stories and rotate them through my wall cover collection.

A club owner (Pierce Brosnan) promotes a new drug called URGE which causes people to lose their inhibitions. Things take a sinister turn when primal impulses become uncontrollable.

I wouldn’t have recognized Danny Masterson, but because of the recent rash of accusations of rape and physical abuse that he’s been involved with, then the continued involvement with the cult of Scientology…well I had loaded opinions when he came on screen. Only reason I watched this was because of Pierce Brosnan and it was free to stream on Amazon prime.

Believe me when I tell you, this movie is not worth your time. It’s an obvious attempt at a morality tale, but everyone starts the movie being completely trash human beings and then turn into even worse trash people. Brosnan gets about 10 minutes total screen time and sucks the air out of the room with his hamfisted impression of what a pimp/drug dealer/devil would be through the haze of a self dosing drug dealer.

81AaB2hTFML. SL1500 878x1024 V For Vendetta

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes and his companions
Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
All up alive.
Threescore barrels, laid below,
To prove old England’s overthrow.
But, by God’s providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
A stick and a stake
For King James’s sake!
If you won’t give me one,
I’ll take two,
The better for me,
And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn’orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

The original Guy Fawkes was a domestic religious extremist that was attempting to blow up the British Parlament to usher in a new Catholic reign by striking a fatal blow to a Protestant ruling class. V For Vendetta is the story of a domestic terrorist that uses the face of Guy Fawkes to confuse and confound an authoritarian regime that had gotten too powerful and too extreme.

There something to be said for the methods of both the original Fawkes and “V” from the movie. Both of them used extreme methods to effect change, both because of their perception of how the world treated them and their perceived lack of a voice. Neither of them ultimately survived their plots, much like recent mass shooters that we’ve had in the US. How do you prevent something like a Guy Fawkes from happening again?

710KUMdvF8L Batman: Room Full of Strangers

A recently retired, convalescing Jim Gordon, takes a trip to the shore for some much-deserved rest and relaxation. Soon after he registers at an old seaside resort, a body shows up and a murder-mystery is suddenly his to unravel! But will his investigation be derailed by a Batman-obsessed youngster?

This is a very unsatisfying story with some decent artwork. I got it for $2 from BAM, but still feel like I over paid for what it was, which was a brief and sad story that had Batman in it for only 3 panels.

Four friends are in for the adventure of a lifetime when they travel to New Orleans for the Essence Festival.

Buddy movie about changing friendships in which everything ultimately works out for everyone involved. It was funny and had several golden shower scenes, along with a healthy dose of girl power, sexism and racial humor. It was a bizarre mix, but worked well for the most part, just don’t go in expecting a clean and funny film.

    515ysDSbIBL Singularity

In the year 2020, Elias van Dorne (John Cusack), CEO of VA Industries, the world’s largest robotics company, introduces his most powerful invention Kronos, a super-computer designed to end all wars. When Kronos goes online, it quickly determines that mankind itself is the biggest threat to world peace and it then launches a worldwide robot attack to rid the world of the ”infection” of man. Sixty years later, a small band of humans remains alive but on the run from the robot army. A teenage boy, Andrew (Julian Schaffner), and teenage girl, Calia (Jeannine Wacker), form an unlikely alliance to reach the mythical land of Aurora, where it is rumored mankind exists without fear of robot persecution. But does Aurora actually exist? And will they live long enough to find out?

This is the same exact movie by the same director of Aurora, it’s not the first time I’ve seen a movie remade with a larger budget, but it’s weird there was only a year between the two releases. This is a great movie with well traveled story points, it moves incredibly slowly and the budget seems haphazardly spent on just John Cusack and the last 10 minutes of special effects. By all means, do not spend too much to watch this, but it was a fun low budget ride that I suggest you take if you’re like me and are a fan of Singularity stories.
