  4. I don't get watermelon. I don't understand it.

Who wants a melon that is watery and has lots of seeds.

Honeydew, now THERE's a melon I would eat.

The majority of European countries? In Austria they have religion classes for sure. Unless they changed something in the other countries in this area, they're teaching it too.
I don't see the problem with religion classes, as long as it's separate from science classes where they are obligated to teach evolution.
Also, the Catholic religion teachers have never tried to refute evolution. Though I can't remember if they used the old or the new testament.

I can't stand her either! She just isn't funny and bugs the crap out of me.

    Good, very good.

  6. @LukeV1-5: Haven't you ever heard of Seedless Watermelon?

Honeydew Melon is pretty dang good too though, an essential ingredient in any respectable fruit salad.

@outofocus: dairy also makes me unhappy. Thank goodness for Vanilla Silk. But sugar is is almost as important to me as oxygen and thc and water.

  9. I find the fact that humans are primates awe inspiring too. We are apart of nature after all, even though we try are best to set ourselves apart from nature. Good luck with that humanity. Also why are Russian women so hot? Pale snow vodka drinking sexy commies I say.

The fact that we are primates puts us squarely in part-of-nature, thus making it impossible for us to do anything unnatural. In what way do we try, or can we, be separate from nature? It could be said that anything we do is natural because we are natural.
I, too am awed at what nature has managed. It really is quite incredible and I don't understand why anyone would say that evolution denies the mystery and beauty of man.

  10. it does bugs me that people try to set us out of nature.
ask yourself what is the animal kingdom? what is a animal? it's just a category made that exclude us. if this missing link is made it proves we belong in the animal kingdom. We are just smarter and advance in technology faster than the rest.

It is believed that God created the universe for no other reason than to play a game of The Sims against Satan.
He tends to be a major douche.

  11. Humanity acts out its natural tendencies all the time, despite the social idea of trying to burn out those natural urges. Seriously, look at all the sex and violence in the world. We are still very much animals. Yes, we have technologies, not much different than a monkey with it's tools. Except we are definitely more complex. This would be a fun paper to write.

  12. The Catholic Church has an agreement w/ the public school system (in NYC at least) where they allow Catholic students to leave early every Wednesday for 'religious instruction', til they've finished, somewhere around 13 years old. I don't kow of any other religions that have that arrangement.
I don't see that having a course titled 'Religion' would be a huge problem in the US public school system, under three conditions:
    1. That it not be a requirement.
    2. They also offer Philosophy courses.
    3. That it include all major religions.

    Posted 6 months ago #

  13. All major religions would definitely be a plus. Enough with the Army of God, God brigade in America.

  14. We have religion in our school, mandatory up to junior cycle, and then at senior cycle you can choose it as one of your option classes.

Every fucking year, though, they start off with the same thing: This is religion class, not Christianity class. W're going to talka bout all religions equally.

And then it's like, This religion is this, and Christianity is different like this. This other religion, it says this, and that is different from Christianity. You see this here? This religion has this, Christianity doesn't.

    Fucking Christianity.

And uh, what's your problem? That doesn't sound that bad. Guess what, here they teach exclusively Catholicism, and nothing but Catholicism.

They have some Evangelical classes in the bigger schools, but they're not worth mentioning.

Also, in every school I have been to, except university, they had a cross on the wall, in each classroom. And everyone had to stand up in the morning, even the ones without religion, and pray.

    How's that for feeling awkward.

    Posted 6 months ago #

  16. Yeah, everyone had to pray in the private junior high I went too. Definitely awkward. We had a religious class, but it was strictly the bible and Christianity. Hardcore Christian brainwashing school that was. Good thing it went in one ear and out the other. Didn't float my boat.

    Posted 6 months ago #

  17. It's funny that more than 75% of children that are home-schooled in the US live in evangelical families. When public school went to shit for my youngest, I decided to home-school. I had looked for private schools w/in 30 miles and could not find a single one that was either secular or non-sectarian. That's when I knew what it meant to live in West Virginia. So I home-schooled him for awhile, then came up w/ the brilliant idea to become a teacher in the high school he would attend. It was...interesting.
It also made me realize how difficult it can be for some people (who live in areas like this) to ever separate themselves from their families and communities. There is barely a hint that any other options exist and those few that do are evil (no hyperbole there, real EVIL).

  18. Nyokki you make Virginia sound as scary as I imagine it to be. Jesus Camp scary!

Man, that's not even funny. Sarah has a small forehead, small eyes, thin nose, and thin lips. That's the exact opposite of my face.
And then there's another problem. She looks like a horse.
In case you were just trolling, this is not even funny fuck you.
    Hugs and kisses ♥.

I see a big problem with religion classes when they don't teach you about the history of religion, just about what the bible has to say. When it's said it's all real, it presents itself like a science.
It's mandatory to attend religion classes unless your parents pull you out (heh, pull out), you have to be 18 to make this decision for yourself.

Once in religion class I did a test for my desk-mate (she's an atheist, too), she got a 10 (A or 6 in some countries). I know what Christians want to hear.

It's called religion class, not history class. It's about a philosophy, and if you don't want them to butcher evolution and claim Galileo was a sinner, then why would you expect them to teach about any other aspect of history?
They teach from the Christian point of view and that's fine. Would you even care what anyone had to say about their religion, if they said after every biblical fact, this is only what the bible teaches, go to the Jew around the corner and he will tell you it's not true?
I don't agree with the fact that it's mandatory, but those are two different issues.

And yeah, no offence, it's not that hard to be good at a subject, you don't agree with. Especially with something like Christianity. All you need is objectivity.

You're damn right I'm dope. Plus as of today, I officially have the fastest baby in the city of Edmonton. MY BOY IS THE SHIT. HE OWNS THE FUCKING TRACK AND ALL THE BABIES ON IT. You should have seen him. Actually, I'll post the video of the final heat tomorrow. I'm so fucking proud I can't even describe it. Wish you all could have seen him in the lead up, trying out the track and intimidating the other parents, then finishing them all off, yet playing to the crowd. Beautiful. This kid has so much potential it's scary. He's going to own the world.

I'm not sure if this much awesome is healthy, without my guidance anyway. But I'm sure you can handle it. And I want to see that video.

  29. @Antagonista: They shouldn't teach it as if it was real and not just their belief, brain washing children. Mandatory or not it's against everything the word "school" stands for.

    Posted 6 months ago #

  30. Lamb

What does the word school stand for then. Because I'm pretty sure just about every person who has taught anyone about their beliefs, has taught them from their point of view. Would you be satisfied if they added, 'in my opinion', after every sentence? Of course not because it doesn't make any difference.

The fact that it's mandatory is the only insulting thing about it, you can't expect a religious person to teach religion as if it couldn't be true, since it's obviously true to them.
