  1. Ghost Dog is a loose and inferior remake of Melville's Le Samourai. So is The Killer.

All draw their origins from This Gun for Hire but Le Samourai is the big influence.

  2. Yeah Puu is right. If there was some more convincing version of this I would actually print it out and do it.
And take pictures. Did I mention that the people in my town are as gullible as 10 year old children?

"you’re mosdef doing it wrong… you’re not near enough of a condescending opinionated teenie-bopper to be the ‘real’ dieA…"

  3. Wait, The Killer is a loose and inferior remake of that film as well? All right in that case I'll watch all three.

  4. Blah blah blah yakkity schmackity. You don't need to read Red Harvest by Dashiell Hammett to enjoy A Fistful Of Dollars.

I'll probably wind up giving Le Samourai a rent anyways. :P

  5. "You don't need to read Red Harvest by Dashiell Hammett to enjoy A Fistful Of Dollars."

Word. But you should do it anyway.

  6. I have never watched A Fistful of Dollars.

    I hate myself for this.

And drink to I trunken am

  7. Yeah it's pretty fucking unacceptable.

And you never watched For A Few Dollars More, either.

What are we going to do with you RSI. Tsk tsk.

  8. How about Yojimbo?

    Posted 6 months ago #

  9. Yojimbo? I haven't seen that one yet. There are still too many Akira Kurosawa films I need to see.
The main character in Yojimbo, is that the same guy from those films with that father who would travel around with his son who was still a baby and have fights with people etc. I forgot the title. I'm bad with titles.

    Posted 6 months ago #

  10. Lone Wolf and Cub? I don't think Toshiro Mifune did any of those. Not sure though.

Anyway, Yojimbo is A Fistful Of Dollars with Samurai.

    Posted 6 months ago #

  11. Well, shit, how am I supposed to watch the same movie twice one with a cowboy and one with a samurai? I'll explode in awe.

    Posted 6 months ago #

  12. Cowboys and Samurai have an odd, yet poetic parallel with each other. Both genres of film were sort of building on the other for a while.

If you want to get both styles thrown at you at the same time, just watch Kill Bill.

By the way, the story I mentioned earlier, Red Harvest, is supposedly what both Yojimbo & Fistful were both based on. It was a hard-boiled detective story set in San Fransisco. Mind = blown?

  13. I've seen Kill Bill, it awed me.

    Posted 6 months ago #

  14. Lone Wolf and Cub! Exactly. Oh god how much I love those. I've seen all of them. Anyway, the guy from the poster reminded me of the lone wolf.

"Cowboys and Samurai have an odd, yet poetic parallel with each other."

That's so true, I couldn't have said it better.

  15. dieA loves Samurai cinema!! You gotta be kidding me. There is nothing like 1960's Japanese Feudal Japan cinema, I lovs it.

I love western cinema too, but you already knew that.

It works backwords too Suicy, The Seven Samurai(A classic, and fav) was turned into The Magnificent Seven. But I prefer Seven Samurai.

Head first into the fucking reef.

All organized religions face a common problem, a tender spot through which we may enter and shift them to our designs: How do they distinguish hubris from revelation?

Jim Jarmusch is soft hit or strong miss. Ghost Dog is one of his better ones and still not that great. His best movie is Down By Law. His new one looks pretty cool in the trailer but I watched some of it with (some clip with Tida Swinton) and it wasn't very well put together. He's over rated. No Limits No Control better be good. I've seen everything dickfor has made because everyone loves his stupid hair but so far none of it has been impressive.

    @RSI
If you've seen The Good The Bad and The Ugly you've seen a better movie than A Fistful of Dollars. A Few Dollars More I personally like better but that's mainly because I like the characters more.

    Posted 6 months ago #

  29. Magnus

Yeah but anyone who is truly in love with that film is obligated to watch A Fistfull of Dollars and A Few Dollars More as well.
RSIxidor watched that film just recently because I told him he should. He's still not used to films like that, and what better way to get used to them than to watch the others.

Clint is old. Everyone who isn't blind needs to absorb everything he has ever had anything to do with, before he dies and people forget his face.
