Well now, some very similar literature tastes to me (except that Dune shit). Here are some others not already mentioned that I've enjoyed,
Kerouac - On The Road
Easton Ellis - American Psycho
Any other Bukowski (DieA mentioned "Factotum", I also liked "Women" and "Notes of a dirty old man")
Wilde - The picture of Dorian Gray
Kafka - Metamorphosis
Any Douglas Adams
Elton - Stark
Palahniuk - Invisible monsters

Nice, so Invisible monsters is recommendable? I'll read all of those. Except Metamorphosis which I have read already. Kafka is tasty, morbid but tasty.

Extreme enlightenment that allows only a fraction to take advantage of it.
In mediaeval times only the rich and noble had access to valuable information because their libraries were guarded, today there are still guards. In peoples' minds.

I heart the internet. Information on demand. The name of the girl who sings the song at the end of that movie the name of which I can't remember but it had something to do with time travel and started with an S? The internet will know.

Information on demand. I absolutely ADORE the internet! Google is my oracle and I carry Delphi around in my pocket. I think that I prefer being my own filter TYVM. It beats Book Burning 2.0. Of course, some people will continue to be sloths and others will embrace collective knowledge just as they always have. For the latter group, the internet is like having all the great libraries of history in the palm of their hand (except, of course, all of the ones that have been burned throughout history for providing TMI).

and of course all of that will store info on a chip in your forearm

The forearm is a crappy place to store the chip. Limbs are too easily mangled or lost. I would go for the head, since if that gets smashed you won't need the chip anymore.

That same chip will alert authorities if you're looking at Pedobear approved images, and also give you instructions to better your masturbatory techniques.

Who would refuse a few pointers?

enlightment in the fact that innocence and ignorance are destroyed but a burden as we know too much?

Ignorance (and innocence) will never be destroyed.

There is no such thing as too much knowledge.

I'm gonna go look at some porn now. I am telling you guys cuz I don't have my chip yet.

several questions arise to the importance and impact that this level of freedom of information provides.

on the base level the freedom of information allows people these days to completely understand and form an opinion on any range of subjects ranging from religon to sexual understanding. what are the implications on the upcoming generation given the freedom of information that they are given. will they retreat into a slovenly bunch ruled by the keys at their fingertips or will they use this newfound freedom to better themselves and completely demolish what it means to be human as we know it.

back in the days of the dark ages when we were more animalistic, when life was dominated by the urge to survive and materalisms were insignifigant, was that better than the freedoms we enjoy now? is this freedom of information a blessing or a burden? a burden meaning that we have destroyed the suspension of disbelief and now have to face life in a whole new way? are we as a human race like a teenage child finally realising that there is more to life than shitting eating and sleeping?

TLDR: do you see the internet as a burden or a hinderance to the evolution of our race or do you see it as an extreme enlightment? enlightment in the fact that innocence and ignorance are destroyed but a burden as we know too much?

Culottes. They're like, if you have a bowl, of large carrying capacity, and a cup, of small capacity, and then you COMBINED them, so that it still looks like a cup, but it has the carrying capacity of a bowl. Except replace bowl with shorts and cup with skirt.

The Sex-Abuse 'Memory' Crimes
by Casey Schwartz

Years ago, beginning in 1988, a group of children was coerced into participating in unspeakable acts: incest, bestiality, kidnapping, murder.

Or maybe they weren’t.

Last week, the tiny town of Bates City, Missouri (population: 245) was turned upside-down by such allegations. Six members of the Mohler family—four brothers, their uncle, and their father—were arrested on charges of sexually abusing one of the brother’s children for a period of several years starting in the late 1980s. The accusers, now adults, made other lurid allegations as well, including the claims that a girl was held captive in their basement long enough to give birth to two babies (one of which they say the men buried underneath the basement floor) and that they were forced to help kidnap and kill a man, brutally stabbing him to death...
But what makes the accusations even more explosive is that they are coming out now, nearly 20 years later, because one of the plaintiffs says that she only recently fully remembered the events. Now 26 years old, the unidentified accuser says she “recovered” the memories after years of repressing them. The question now facing law-enforcement officials is how much credence to give these so-called recollections.

Few issues spur as much disagreement in the psychological community as that of recovered memory. Ever since Sigmund Freud asserted that repressed memories of sexual abuse were the cause of hysterical symptoms in patients (giving rise to psychoanalysis, or "the talking cure"), the subject of recovered memory has polarized psychologists, especially in criminal cases, when such memories have been used to give alleged rapists and molesters lengthy prison sentences.

Dr. Harris Stratyner, a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, says the existing research on recovered memories is “split down the middle,” with one side arguing such memories are symptoms of a "false memory syndrome," and the other saying they shouldn't be assumed to be pure fiction. Dr. Peter Freed, assistant professor of psychiatry at Columbia, points out that spontaneously remembering or realizing things happens all the time, and that such memories shouldn't really be thought of as "recovered."...

I have been wanting to read Lord Of The Flies. I didn't really understand all the symbolism in High School. I know I would now and would be a quick read.

I still need to read books by George Orwell. Really need to read 1984. I really enjoy dystopian films.

It's been a busy week for Glenn Beck watchers. On Monday, the Anti-Defamation League released a report warning of the paranoia and stridency that increasingly define the conservative grass roots. It echoed an April report issued by the Department of Homeland Security, but unlike the DHS report, the ADL named names, and fingered Beck as the figure most responsible for the unhinging of the right...

Reason Project: Cogito ergo sum

“Cogito ergo sum.” “Je pense donc je suis.” “I think, therefore I am.” - Rene Descartes

If you ever had an operation and were ‘put to sleep’ by an anesthesiologist, you are probably familiar with the experience of watching the drug being administered, then waking up in the recovery room hours later. For you, there was ‘nothing’ in between those two experiences (getting the injection and waking up).

As far as the Cosmos goes, there may be ‘times’ (or non-times) when ‘nothing’ exists. Buddhist texts sometimes say, “Before the time when nothing existed . . .” Then comes a ‘time’ when the Cosmos opens its eyes (your eyes), and says, “I think, therefore I am.”

The atheist position is that this cognizance isn’t God. It’s nature. Or, it’s the way things are; no need to personify it.

The theist position (taking many fantastic forms), says ‘This’ is God. The fact that you personify yourself (when you think) suggests that the Cosmos personifies itself. After all, you (we) are the Cosmos thinking.

Without this cognizance, nothing would (be known to) exist, therefore this cognizance ‘created’ everything.

This rambling is only meant to suggest that a hairbreadth separates atheism and theism. “A split hair’s difference, and heaven and earth are set apart.” (or) Or, what a difference a hairbreadth can make!
