Sometime in the last week, arguably while I was drunk and passed out (or out dead with the flu) MCS stumbled through it’s 10,000th post.  How awesome is that?  What started as a drunken hobby of posting pictures on my website has turned into (a drunken hobby that I convince others to post on my website) something awesome.  Back in the day I had high hopes for www.comiccovers.com (my very first url that I ever bought!), but sadly that site never really took off.  Hell, www.comic-images.com is doing better then comiccovers, and it’s only a year or so old.  The site that’s about to blow up from all the content I’m going to add to it?  www.randomnude.com  WordPress 2.5 RC2 has been installed on it, and it’s sweet tasting shit, I’ll tell you that much.  I’ll be devoting a little more time to that site due to how awesome I think it could be 😉

Anyways, thank you to everyone that’s made MCS so awesome, and thanks to stumbledupon, digg, reddit and all the other sites that drive traffic here!  How was it that you heard of MCS?

I need a new shared host for the secondary TWG sites.  A couple of MCS lurkers have mentioned to me in the past that they’re into the hosting thing.  I’m currently looking for a dedicated server that can handle 17-30 domains, 200 gigs of content, a couple Tbs of transfer a month, and the ability to have over 500,000 files on the server.  I thought I had found that in 1and1, but they’re dicking me around with some stupid 250,000 file limit.  Comiccovers.com alone has over 160,000 files, comic-images.com has around 30,000, and randomnude.com [nsfw] has around 20,000.  I need space ya’ll.  Send me an IM or link to your hosting sites in the comments here.  We’ll have a gladiatorial combat to see who’s fit to host my sites!

The number of user submitted images is down.  Way down.  Submit something already.

There are forums now, due to the constant complaining and moaning about the lack of them.  You should be able to just pop right in, they’re designed to share the same login information and cookies that the main MCS site does.  If you have problems, please shut the hell up mention them in the comments below.

Those among you who are smart will be able to figure out how to get to them.  Good Luck!

I just spent the last couple hours reading through the stories on 365tomorrows, (a site that’s currently advertising on MCS.) I’m rather happy with most of the short stories.  Seems like all the stories are around 500-1000 words each, so they’re nice and short and to the point.  Check em out if you get the chance!

First, the How:
1. Goto myspace.com and login
2. Click the Home link (first link on the left under the banner ad at the top)
3. Click Account Settings link
4. Under Change Account Settings, click the -Cancel Account- link
5. Click the Cancel My Account button to confirm removal

Now, the Why:
MySpace is endorsing bigoted assholes, spam bots and general ass hattery.  After deletion of a 30,000 member atheist group, they kinda just shrugged their shoulders and said “meh”.  So, since I don’t want to manage that crap anymore, off it goes.  If you were a friend of MCS on myspace, um, well you should have been commenting on MCS instead of that MySpace crap anyways.

Site fixed, kkthx

Find error in what I claim?  IM me or join the IRC room and complain about how much of a drunk I am, that I can’t even get a website working perfectly, and I somehow manage to misspell 1 out of every 10 post titles.

There’s currently about 1200- 1500 RSS subscribers.  I’d like to have that number over 9,000 by the end of 2008.

I’ve added back the ability to view the comments from the front page!

yay!

also, there’s a great need for image submissions, so if you haven’t tried submitting anything in a while (or at all), please go ahead and upload some pix, kkthx.  Just remember that only about 1% of the pictures submitted get posted.  So, you could either upload one at at time, or do what diabeetus does and carpet bomb the site and submit 200 at a time.  I prefer the 200 at a time method, cause it’s honestly easier to go through 200 at once.  Some people do opt for the is 1 at a time option and then IM me as to why their 100 pixel square postage stamp of goatse was declined.  So, go young grasshopper submit thy images.

Also, was looking back at the top 10 commented posts on mcs, good times involving ballerinas and lamborghini name calling.  I need to figure out a way to post that information somewhere on MCS…

so it’s been too long since I’ve done a site wide announcement post, so here I am.  Had my first ‘in a room’ class since like 3 years ago, and verily it did suck.  I hate going back to school.  And this is a speach class too, so blah on that shit.  I’m going to have to make a speech.

So since it’s a new year, and a new semester, and I’m bored, I’m going to change up the site’s theme and lay out.  To those that like change, this will be good.  For those that don’t like change, please join me in a drink of Jack, and we’ll get over this horrid, horrid day together.

Anyone else have a first day of class today?

Site problems, all fixed now.

So, for those of you that actually clicked through the install page, I thank you.  I got an e-mail from each and every attempt.  I was wondering why I had 400 e-mails, and then I checked the MCS irc channel, and everyone’s running around with their heads on fire, so I checked the site, and there were some minor sql problems that were causing big site problems.  Everything is all fixed now, and I’m going to bed so I can play some Starcraft board games tomorrow.

Ok, so I’ve had several people mention that their versions of the RSS feed are still showing the NSFW content, which they should not be. Please make sure that your RSS reader is subscribed to the proper URL. If that doesn’t work then I’m going to need to release some code monkeys on the site and see what they can break fix. I’m in need of some custom work on the site, so if you know your way around wordpress plugin authoring, please get in contact with me, and we can talk shop.

Also, because I’m wanting more people to do posts, I’ve made a handy dandy list of things that would be cool to see up on the site. That link is at the top of every page too! Use this list in conjunction with the category list to give you a good idea on what’ll get posted.

I’m going to be taking an extended vacation from my day jorb, so expect to see me online much more then normal. If you have any questions, feel the urge to show me nudity, or are just plain old bored, feel free to send me an IM. This of course is dependent on me being around my computers, which I might not be, cause I have 4 cases of beers, 3 gallons of jack daniels, and about 10 different 360 games to play/beat. So for the next two weeks, I’m going to be either gaming on the x-bawks, or passed out drunk. or maybe even getting lucky.

I’m hungry

Ok, so, I get one bug squashed, and 4 more pop up. I’m sure some of you have noticed some random drug adverts at the bottom of every page… this was thanks to some stray code that somehow got added to the site’s template. I’ve removed the offending code, hopefully that’ll be that. Now that I’ve got that fixed…the submission engine is borked, which leads to my next thing…all the images that were submitted and approved? They won’t be showing up in their post until I get the submission engine back on it’s feet.

/sigh. go bother kero or merth on irc, they’re always bored on there, right?

I’ve added a feed for the last 25 comments. Also, many of you (about 50 of you last count) have pointed out that there’s something all messed up with the image links, in that they’re not taking you to a larger picture, it’s just linking back to the post that you’re already at. Which sucks. I have a team of crack monkeys on the issue. No wait, a crack team or code monkeys.

A team of crack code monkeys?

Ok, I got all most of the bugs kicked out of the submissions page. So, log in, click “submit an image” and submit an image.  Right now, the rejection e-mail doesn’t really tell you WRRRY you got submitted, just know that it wasn’t cause I hate you.

It’s cause you submit sucky images.

Coming soon : some kind of contest / competition that results in a prize. Is this a good idea?

I just e-mailed this to the guys that run the Gawker Media websites, the editors at the three that I read, and Mark at boingboing (cause I love mark), not sure if any of you caught it, but they had a picture of tubgirl up on their front page for the better part of an hour. (they claim 20 minutes, but if you read their site via RSS, it’s still up)  Luckily, my boss was out of the office today, or else I could have been fired.  Or at least asked why I was looking at such sexy images whilst at work…

I enjoy visiting Kotaku from work.  At least I used to, until I went to the site and found an image of a woman shitting all over herself while sitting upside down in a bathtub.  I will no longer be visiting any of the sites that Gawker Media owns, and I will actively promote my other friends and associates to do the same.  These blogs had been worksafe up to this point, and it’s a shame to see such reputable sites like Kotaku, Gizmodo or Consumerist fall to such depths.  There is a time and a place for everything, and the front page of a video gaming blog is not an appropriate venue for fecal fetishism.

I will point out that this image is STILL being viewed by anyone that uses bloglines or any webbased RSS reader.  It’s now 7:37PM est, nearly 4 hours after the original post.  Deleting the image from your server would be a good start :

gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2007/10/tubgirl.jpeg
cache.gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2007/10/tubgirl.jpeg

Appropriate action in this case is to either fire or remove posting privileges from everyone involved in the posting of the image.  Once appropriate action is taken my stance on the Gawker Media empire may change, but until then…

I say good day sir.

As many of you know, I’m all for the insanity that the internet brings into our lives, and the scarring that it inflicts on people’s minds on a daily basis.  This is something different though.  These are “worksafe” blogs that are trying to pull in as much readership as possible, something that MCS is also striving for… this is why NSFW shit is put behind a cut.  I want you to surf from work / school.  I need you to this.  Since I know that you’re going to be somewhere that people will see your monitor, I don’t post NSFW / NSFM images where you could get fired / divorced / suspended.   This is why there are the <–click here for more –> features on practically every blog known to man.  This is why I felt betrayed by kotaku.  I never would have expected this from them.  Now 4chan…that’s another mindfucking set of expectations 😛

Special thanks to casemods for finding, and then telling me about a rather stupid/serious bug with the wordpress backend that MCS is running on. Somehow people were able to overwrite previously uploaded images, which could have gotten ugly. I needed a reason to update everything around here, but was putting it off for fear of breaking something, which is exactly what happened over the weekend.

As some of you have noticed and asked about the the submissions pages is completely dead right now, so I’ll be working on it all night tonight. If anyone around these parts knows of a good wordpress dev, drop me a line, I have a couple plugin / coding requests.

Also, those of you on the RSS feed, another reason I was putting off on updating is the new version of wordpress forces you to visit the site if you want to see behind the “more” cut that’s on all NSFW posts. I guess it’ll bring more traffic to the site, but it pisses me off that there’s no option to just let people stay in their preferred environment.
