I login with the “remember me” checked, and while it appears that I’m logged in, as soon as I hit Submit Comment it tells me to log in, and I am no longer logged in. A refresh kicks me out too.

If I log in without checking the remember me, then a refresh keeps me logged in, and I think this comment will actually publish.

Which means that I have to log in every time, I can’t have myself remembered so that I’m just logged in every time I visit. A small problem.

tiki why not cue up your images and have them auto post every X number of hours? I did this with my wordpress site (now closed) using virtual cron jobs etc. There’s plugins for wordpress that allow you to put in dozens or pictures, write the post then using cron jobs have it post later on it’s own.

Right now, I’m queuing them up manually, so right now I have something like 100 posts ready to go. I’m trying to find a plugin that will just look at my most recent post, and date the one that I’m currently working on X hours later.

what plugins do you know of? give me a link! I’ve found a couple that kinda do that, but not really. Closest I’ve found is Post Queue, but I’d still have to mess with the date/time section, which is what I’m trying to get away from.

I was at DreamHost originally, then they overcharged their customers about 7.5 million bucks, and the sites were down on a constant basis. It was after I couldn’t get to a couple of my sites for two days straight that I went to 1and1, who’s been advertising the FUCK out of their shared servers in a few of the magazines I read.

So, tl; dr : Dreamhosts sucks harder then 1and1, I won’t go back.

what I’m looking for isn’t for MCS, as MCS is on it’s own dedicated server, cause it’s so fucking 1337. I’m using hurricane electric for that, and I’m incredibly happy with them so far. Only problem is, they don’t offer what I need for the 17 other sites I have….

Also, from what I understand, http compression is shoddy at best, and just plain doesn’t work at worst, making the site seem non-responsive and dead.

Is there truth to this, or am I just hearing bullshit?

On web servers that primarily serve static content, http compression is very beneficial because the server can compress and cache all static html files *once* and deliver the compressed versions immediately without having to go through the compression / decompression routine.

On sites that serve dynamic content, (like MCS), this may not provide a similar performance increase because each page now has to be compressed before being sent. This additional compression step actually introduces a performance hit at the server level.

On sites with little traffic, the server hit is negligble compared to the increase in service speed due to the more efficient use of bandwidth.

However on high traffic, dynamically served sites, the server can become a bottleneck because the added overhead of having to compress each and every page before transmission can completely obliterate any bandwidth efficiencies gained by the compression, eventually causing slowdowns and unresponsiveness.

So yes, there is a lot of truth to what you were told, depending, of course, on the circumstances…
