This Is The End movie review (and wallpaper!)

After seeing Oblivion, Star Trek, Iron Man 3 and finally ‘Man of Steel’, it’s been a fairly lack luster summer of movies for 2013, all razzle dazzle with little to no real feeling or pizzazz. Thank GOD for for Seth Rogan and his pot friendly friends, because “This Is The End” is finally a movie that didn’t sing a loud song and then fall flat in the presentation.  Superman had me just flat out not caring that an entire city was being demolished, Star Trek shit all over my favorite scifi characters, Oblivion was just 5 repackaged movies starring Tom Cruise, Iron Man 3 felt like a 90′s comic book movie…’This Is The End’ though?  This movie was good.  It was funny, it was visually appealing, it had more guest stars that I would even know how to list out…the summer was saved by this filthy pot film.

It was filthy.  And GOOD.

Man of Steel

No obvious problems with this particular Superman film, there was a jarring Krypton -> Earth cut, but I’m happy to say there were no complete fuck ups here.  There wasn’t anything after the credits though, which says to me that WB is still on the fence about this whole “Superman franchise” idea.

Something that I DID appreciate though was that Lois Lane was much more of a real character in this film, and actually showed some investigative journalism chops.  Shame they made her a red head though, I’ve always preferred my Lois Lanes to be brunettes. . .

No alcohol for me

Just found out that my triglycerides levels were WAAAAY off from where they should be. I’ve already lost about 15 pounds this year, but the doc says that I should loose another 100, stop drinking completely and then stop eating any fatty or processed foods.

Anyone else out there that can help me out with food options? I’m eating carrots and green beans, I know those will prevent my heart from rupturing, but holy fuck, it is boring to not drink and to have to eat fucking salads.

FUCK.

Also, I really want to make the ‘author’ pages on this site more….”you” related, with blogs and shit like that.

   Rattbaggy has it right. Not sure what your cooking level is at, but upping it is the easiest way to eat healthier. You cook it, you know what is in it. Just that simple.

   As for the no boozeohol, I can only begin to imagine your pain. Sure I would rather have my finger nails pulled out then stop drinking.

   Pay attention to how many carbohydrates you’re eating. Read nutrition labels. try to put it between 120-200g/day. Not so few that you go into ketosis and feel shitty, despite what the ketards say.

   There are some low-carb, high-fiber tortillas you can get at the store that are pretty good. Get some ham or turkey, light/fat-free cream cheese, and a little good brown mustard and roll that shit up. Protein, fiber, a little fat and very few carbs. Don’t eat six at a time.

   Cook more. Got a gas grill? Even a portable camping grill with a small gas tank is great. Charcoal is fun and all but takes too long – with a gas grill you can fire it up and have dinner on within minutes instead of hours.

   Chicken breasts, stabbed with a fork and marinated overnight in italian dressing in the fridge. Chicken thighs are a little fattier too but also good. Pork chops, too. Don’t eat six at once.

   Add some grillable vegetables: asparagus, squash, zucchini, peppers, whatever. Get some olive oil, pepper and salt(or garlic salt) on them. It won’t take you but half an hour or so to cook it all, and it’ll actually taste good. Wholesome.

   Mind the vegetables you pick a little bit: grilled corn has a lot of carbohydrate in it, around 15-20g an ear.

   Also, stop drinking sugary soda if you haven’t already. Period. Stop. Switch to diet and fucking deal with it.

       Awesome, good start. and those mio things in water will help keep you hydrated, which is important.

       i’m lucky that there’s a lemon tree outside that I can grab from any time and flavor the fuck out of some water. or i have a sodastream thing that i make fizzy water and add lemon to when I’m feelin’ the need for fizz. i also get the single-serving powder packets to add to bottled water. target has some good ones that are cheap. the lime margarita is pretty good imo. they have some good mio knockoffs that are cheaper too.

       i like to rock the low-carb tortilla with ham etc as above, or sometimes with some pb&j in there. Getting away from stuff like white rice, though a little with lunch isn’t as bad as having it with a late dinner. I still eat regular sandwiches sometimes but always on the highest-fiber wheat bread I can find. More broccoli and stuff. Mixed veg steamer bags for the microwave, a little salt, pepper, and butter in there, pretty good. Sometimes a little cheese, but no dumping six slices on there or anything.

       Shredded cabbage, fried with a little oil and some seasoning is pretty good – soy sauce, some red pepper flakes, sesame seeds and/or sesame oil. A fennel bulb chopped up thin in there is good too. A few peanuts or some slivered almonds in there is good. Not terribly calorific, so eat something with it.

       try not to punish yourself with food you can’t stand to eat in general though, cause there’s a pretty good chance you won’t be able to maintain that kind of diet forever, which is the goal.

       And good luck -I’m in a similar boat trying to drop about 45 lbs. Most of my advice is based directly on stuff from the doctor, nurse, and dietician I’ve been seeing for the past month. Down by 6-8lbs so far. Come find me on the chat room sometime if you want to talk about it more.

   Heya man. I’m a big fan of cooking for one’s self without all the hoojiboojey BS come join a cult and rub blue mud in your belly button stuff.

   The main trick is to figure out what dishes you like best at what restaurants and figure out how to make them at home. The next step is to get out and try different cuisines, which means trying out different restaurants. Do your research on what is served at the join and balance it with your normal tastes and what you’re doing to push your boundaries.

   Indian, Thai, Greek, Italian, all kinds of different spots have amazing dishes that you can rip off at home for way cheaper. It’s a little more of a pain in the ass…but when you learn a different technique and pull off a dish, it’s a damn sexy feeling. Because now it’s your recipe, and if you love how your cooking tastes, everyone else will too. Trust me on that.

   I’m in the same boat. I dropped my levels so much I got a high five from my doctor. I live alone, and I have been eating at Panda Express. They have a healthier menu nowadays. I get the stir fried chicken options, and have the mixed veggies for the side. I lost 40 pounds last year. I stay away from sodium, fats, carbs. Mostly- if it’s white, I don’t eat it. no white bread, white rice, noodles, etc.

   Episodes like this are why I love Game of Thrones, not because I LIKE it when major characters die gruesome deaths, but because it adds weight to everything that happens. In almost every other TV show you never truly feel like an important character is ever in danger, so a last second escape from peril is a ho-hum event.
   Watching Game of Thrones (especially having not read the books), EVERYTHING feels like it matters. There are no neat wrap-ups at the end of the episodes, and when characters are in danger you totally feel it. Fucking awesome.

     That’s exactly the reason why I can never watch Game of Thrones (and occasionally hate Joss Whedon). A good story should be about how the characters SOLVE their problems in clever, unique, and/or dramatic ways. Not about how many characters are going to die because the writer couldn’t come up with a way to create drama other than torturing/killing characters we care about.

       This series is loosely based on the War of the Roses, which was significantly MORE bloody, with worse betrayals and even less certainty of survival.

       While Whedon sometimes has done some clunky things (like getting romantic couples back together/finally together only to kill one off to add dramatic weight), all of Martin’s deaths seem to be well scripted plans to move the story along. Although I would make some changes in pacing (both Renly and Robb’s rebellions were crushed by book 3, leaving House Lannister to have to self-destruct in books 4+5 while Stannis, Daenerys, the white walkers, and possibly Dorne are still kind of mustering their might), I think he tells an epic story. A lot of people want heroic endings all the time, I can live with bittersweet if it is done well.

    I knew something like this was coming since the episodes leading up to this one all ended relatively well (no cliffhangers, no major characters dyeing = acceptable endings). Frankly, I’m just in it to see Joffrey die in the same manner that Theon Greyjoy is currently experiencing. After that, I may stick around to see dragons.

Xbox Exec: ‘If You’re Backwards Compatible, You’re Really Backwards’ Kotaku

Not sure if this guy was serious or not, but if I’m not able to play the 40+ games that i have for my 360, that’s a real deal breaker for me.

I shudder to think what they’re going to do with that gamer score that I’ve been working on for nearly 10 years

   Gamerscore rolls forward tiki, and lack of backwards compatibility is shitty, but it saves on cost. The Xbox One, and PS4 are both based on 64bit architecture whereas the older systems were based on modified cell processors (PowerPC architecture, think ancient Mac). So in order to make these two systems actually work with legacy media they would have to essentially include an Xbox 360 and PS3 on system. Sony’s work around is to stream “your” PS3 titles to the PS4. And have no doubt in your mind that Sony will charge you for this privilege for every single one of “your” PS3 games that becomes stream-able.

     I agree that’s the reason that they’ve given, but I think it’s a shitty shitty reason, considering I can play pretty much any video game for any console on my PC with emulation. Shit, the PS3 even had additional hardware for the longest time that would play ps2 titles, why not do something like that for the xbox1?

   I doubt Sony is going to make you pay for your stuff twice. That seems to go against their past marketing strategy. Free use of the network and access to your stuff, but you pay for the extras. But they tried to make the PS3 completely backwards compatible at first. They just took that part out in later models to drop cost.
   Now, Ex-Box on the other hand makes you pay for everything. THey’ll charge you twice for the same game if they can on top of the DLC they’re going to charge you an arm and a leg for.

   I’m looking forward to the Xbox One, because it should mean quicker porting of games to the PC, the Xbox One is just AMD PC with 8GB of shared ram running a NT Kernel, there is no reason it can’t run a full version of windows. So the Windows version of a Game and the Xbox version are going to be almost the same.

   This should also be true for the PS4 and Lunix users.

   i think its funny that theres a little box on top so its really box 2. ok. not that funny. but a friend of mine told me that you will have to pay for comcast xfinity ( if you dont already have it ) on top of whatever internet provider you already have. fuck that. comcast was voted the second worst cable/internet ( out of 10 ) provider in the country by Time magazine. My parents have comcast and theyre internet sucks. PS4 for me please.

   Anybody got info on this “4K TV stuff” ? PS4 stated is supports 4K for things like video, but not games. Xbox said it supports 4K….. but to what extent I do not know. My 50-in panasonic DLP is still kicking after 10 years (damn thing was $3400 brand new back then) and before jumping into any of the much nicer HD displays, maybe I aught to wait for a nice 4K TV? I read about an inexpensive one already on the market (under $2K) , though it’s review sounded like it was inexpensive for a reason. I’ll be required to go the Xbox route. I have devoted to much time to Halo to quit now.

     imagine the jump from vhs to dvd, that’s the difference in size ratio, but with the vhs to dvd move, you’ll receive no new functions and no new “gee wow”, other than a larger picture resolution. Really it’s going only affect those of us that have obscenely large TV. I have a 65″ dlp and it would be nice to see what a 65″ 4k tv would do

    I had so much fun watching the reveal; I was watching it on my TV which is hooked to my PC while reading tweets on my phone in which game journalists ripped Microsoft a new one. It was comedy gold.

    Why do people care so much about backwards compatibility? Were people mad when the n64 couldn’t play SNES games? Ever since the ps2 had the neat idea of also playing ps1 games everyone feels entitled to it. Here’s a hint guys, you bought a bunch of games that you play on system 1, when system 2 comes out maybe you should keep system 1 if you want to continue playing said games.
