ansonst 700x465 Anson Street, Charleston, SCNamed after Commodore George Anson, who, back in the 18th century, sailed from England with 5 ships and 1,900 men into the Pacific to capture a galleon full of gold from Manila, in the Philippines.

5 years later he arrived home with 1 ship, 400 men and the gold. Awesome story. He was also, at one time, governor of Charleston when the British were there. A suburb ‘Ansonborough’ is also named after him. End of history lesson.
