I agree. I think Darwinisms only legitimate definition is the classical one, where individuals/species that posses the genetic/physical/intellectual capacity to survive a given environment will outlive any that don't. Social Darwinism may include a sociocultural component that is not explicitly described in the classical definition, however it is, at best, simply a specific case of the original. - Comment on equipartition of forces
I disagree. Survival of the fittest has nothing to do with being fair. Darwinism does not have a "fairness" component. It is a process whose outcome is the result of any arbitrary number of environmental and/or genetic factors. The concept of what is "fair" simply cannot be defined in this paradigm, either at an individual or social level. Being natural does not make a difference one way or another, as our concept of fairness cannot be defined from a naturalistic standpoint either. - Comment on equipartition of forces
I understand what you are saying Nyoks, however I think what you are talking abut might better be described as natural variation, not chaos. Variation in the midst of stability is certainly a good thing, however chaos, by definition, does not possess any component of stability whatsoever. I think people use the term chaos a little too loosely...

Magnetic Air Car

A new take on an old idea. An air powered car, with an on board compressor turned initially, by a magnetic motor powered by a high endurance, high efficiency automotive battery, and in steady state, by recycled compressed air.
Individually, all of these components, air powered cars, compressors, etc., already exist. Combine them with a little “Secret Sauce” and you get… The magnetic air car.
So far so good. Except for one thing. They claim that once in motion, you will get an *unlimited* driving range out of their combination. Supposedly without somehow violating the laws of physics.
Personally, I can see the potential for an extremely efficient system here, but *UNLIMITED* driving range? Unless that secret sauce is pixie dust or something, I’ll believe it when I see it.

Project Orion

AKA the worst rocket idea EVAR.
Project Orion was a NASA “Nucular” rocket propulsion system from the 1950s. Except that nuclear powered, in this instance means nuclear BOMB powered.
The Orion rocket was essentially a nuclear pulse rocket designed to use a series of controlled/directed nuclear detonations for propulsion.
Nuclear reactions are some of the most energetic for any given mass of fuel, and could technically be an ideal energy source for high endurance, long range, space flight applications.
However, used in this fashion, it comes at the cost of some rather horrific radiation related side effects. The movie on the sauce page, give a little humorous insight about the problems, crew member radiation levels, eyeburn etc…
And that doesn’t even cover the environmental effects that a number of sequential, high yield nuclear explosions might occur at ground level after the fact… *shiver* But I suppose it would be better than the entire planet getting destroyed…

An extremely efficient fractal based radiator design inspired by the Peano space filling curve. While the design is probably very efficient in terms of transferring heat to the surrounding air via conduction, compared to traditional radiator designs, I get the feeling it may not be quite as effective at providing radiant heat, as the vast majority of it’s surface area is obscured by it’s own convolutions…
