i’d say that this photo shows a statue of maria and this staircase
the photographer took two photos and forgot to change the photoplate
so we see both pictures in one

See, what’s funny is, I haven’t been on MCS in a week or so, and I’m scrolling through the pages. Earlier today I decided on having a futurama marathon and I’m watching every dvd over the span of the next day or so. And then I come across this right as Bender is imploring the universe, a big, mostly empty wuss, give him all the juice it’s got. Now he’s being jackhammered off the ship.

My cousin and his Japanese wife got this for me as a Christmas present. Gotta say at first glance I was disappointed, since my brother got this DS game cartridge thing that would let him DL any game online and upload it so he could play it. After letting it sit on my shelf for a month, I decided to watch it before their very near upcoming visit, so I could toss out a comment like, “Oh, btw I really enjoyed your gift.” It was surprisingly good, I ended up really enjoying it. Some of the acting made me laugh quite a bit at it’s quality, but most of it was very interesting.

(assuming we are not including the baby bears… yep, there were baby mutant bears, but they didn’t terrorize nobody)

I’ve seen this! It’s actually pretty watchable for its ridiculous premise. Oh, the absolute terror of rabbits running through miniature sets. It also looks like the producers were able to find a single rabbit suit to be used in all of the “graphic” attack scenes. Absolute brilliance!

Even onscreen, or listening to the monk’s chants, or reading about the sky burial, sand painting, and the Potala, Tibet’s always fascinated me in a way of it being good to know that there are mysterious, spiritual, isolated places left in the world. (Well, there were, dammnit). I know the old Tibetan system wasn’t ideal, but it’s a tragedy for humankind to lose something so finely evolved in a world that’s increasingly less spiritual, and diverse. And for what? It’s such a shame.

I like the Dalai Lama’s approach not to be racist. He’s right. Damn Chinese government.

The final death knell, of course, sounded in summer 2006 when the rail link from lowland China was completed all the way to Lhasa, effectively opening the floodgates to unrestricted Chinese colonization. We can only hope that the Beijing Olympics will refocus world attention on the plight of the Tibetan people and their culture…

Yes. I’m having a romantic daydream of a Tibetan leading the men’s Marathon, cruising along because he lives usually at such a high altitude, fuelled by his passion for spreading the message of his people’s plight, and stopping at the end, right before the line and just standing there, proud.

I guess no Tibetans are in the Chinese team.

That railway is surreal, ugly, and depressing.
