Not Scalzi’s best work but by far not his worst book at all. It was enjoyable for what it was: the first chapter is a much longer story. Unfortunately I feel like this new universe he’s building is going to interfere with the OMW Universe that I actually want to get more stories from.
I highly suggest the book as it was a fun read but felt let down by the clear lack of any story resolution. Look forward to the next book sometime in the next year or so :/
I feel this novel was more in the same vein as his Androids dream series. A lot of tongue in cheek mixed with tons of sci fi. For me, it was telling in his choice to have Wil Wheaton do the Audiobook narration. Had he meant this to be a more serious series he would have gone with a more.. sober.. choice of narrator. (Yes, i’m one of those ppl who listen to books to avoid road rage.)
I agree, there was a high level of snark in it, even for Scalzi. there’s a few mary sue characters too, which one is to be expected but to have so many?
Humm I didn’t know this wasn’t part of the OMWU. I enjoyed those books but it has been so long since I read them I didn’t have time to reread them for a new book. So, now I will add this one to my reading list. I read jut about only scifi books.
As for audio book that is how I do my reading too. I enjoy reading books but I just don’t have the time anymore. I listen to books while driving and when I’m doing house work or working on the lathe or mill. This way I get through about 50 to 60 books a year.
