    You can’t see the difference between the first family taking vacations and the national government paying rent to a company owned by the president? One is something all presidents have done. The other is pretty obviously fleecing the country.

    But to address the point of the article, yes, because this is a man that hasn’t gone back on his word multiple times. He’s already rolled back a number of his campaign promises, change his tune about the current president after actually meeting with the guy, and flip flops on the most inane shit more than Kerry was ever accused of doing.

    And of course he’s not going to take the salary, why would he take $400K a year when he’s going to be raking in millions with the business deals he’s going to allow to take place while his “kids run the company”. The same kids that may or may not be getting in on the daily briefings for the president. You can find a litany of sources saying he is and isn’t, so pick your partisan poison I suppose until the linear passage of time proves one of them true.

    If there’s not a corruption scandal in the first 2 years of the Trump administration I will be pleasantly surprised.

    Genuine curiosity might result in a look at Joe B’s time at “home” preferences. A lot of the same funding ingredients in that cake. The secret service leasing additional accommodations – even from Joe! But hey let’s not disturb the narrative.

    Joe Biden cost the taxpayers roughly a million a year in his travel expenses to and from his private residence.

    The Trump family staying in NYC is already wracking up a million a day.

    Also, Joe actually holds office, Melania does not. I think the distinction is important.

    What is the official residence of the President elect then? (I was too lazy to look it up). Let me know, and I’ll pass it on to the Trumps if you like so they can move out of their NY residence.
    As per the graphic, the secret service doesn’t stay in the WH. They commute. Why would NYC be any different? Joe is though renting accommodations to the secret service. He blazed the trail. He’s not just an A-1 shotgun coach and a guy that likes to paw women – he’s canny!
    NYC elects to put on a dog and pony show whenever designated luminaries move about. Isn’t that largely their choice? If the Trumps were to move to DC (and live in a refrigerator box?) wouldn’t the secret service costs and police escorted motorcades still be in effect?
    How do Malia and Sasha get to school and Michelle to her dress designer’s? Costly expenses right?
    So “roughly a million a year” for Joe. Glad that was detailed to your satisfaction. Is that (all of or just) crew wages, maintenance and fuel? Given Air Force/Marines equipment – does it include the depreciation cost of the aircraft purchase? Is that total expedition cost? Or more probably does it ignore security, support and accommodations? Joe apparently did a pretty good job thwarting USAF attempts to respond to FOIA so any light you cast would be useful.
    Melania does not hold office. True. So neither does Michelle then? That apparently has no bearing on Michelle spending a shitload of the taxpayers on vacations… and somehow having the power to dick up school lunches.

    The problem arises if Melania chooses to stay in NYC after her husband is sworn in. Since we only have the figures for what it currently costs, we have to extrapolate. I guess the main point is, is it more expensive to protect the first family in NYC than it is in DC? If yes, move you everyone to DC and stay in the white house like nearly every first family before you. Turning your nose up at the white house is pretty un-American.

    The million a year for Joe. I looked at a number of different sources and that’s about what the total was. I’m not your research librarian. Look it up yourself if you question my numbers and then report back with facts, not pithy remarks.

    And again, I have no issues with presidents taking vacations on occasion. They’ve all done it. However, the cash spent isn’t being paid to a company owned by the president. The expenses of current and prior administrations are just that, expenses. Paying rent to a company the president owns in order to guard the president is extortion. Do you see why people would have a problem with that? Using the office, while still holding that office, to make money solely because you hold that office is also un-American. Probably illegal too.

    And hey, you know what, I think it was a pretty shitty thing of Joe to do, charging the secret service rent for the cottage that sat on his property. Supposedly the amount is currently at $2,200 a month. It used to be lower, but let’s use that amount for the full 8 years, that’s $211,200. We’re still nowhere near the amount that the secret service is currently paying for space in Trump Tower.

    If the secret service has to pay rent in Trump Tower to guard the Trump family and you can’t see where the American tax payer would have a problem with that then I don’t know what to tell you.
