    I wonder what the conversion rate is between carbohydrates and hydrocarbons.

    according to this, if we ate the equivalent of 1 gallon of gas worth of calories in the form of pure lard, we’d get about 1300mpg city/720mpg long distance. If it’s an equivalent of “average food” then it’s about 290mpg/160mpg.

    and thats based on the energy content of the food and petrol.

    Given how much oil goes into the production of our food I would like to see the miles per gallon of oil figures for humans on bikes.
