I watched Myth Busters, and they shot a 50 BMC into a pool, and it only went about 3 feet and lost it’s momentum.

I remember that show. IIRC, the higher-powered the round, the more likely it would just shatter when it hit the water.

Second pic is pure six-pointed Awesome.

    Aquaman43

theyre really kinda beautiful in a way.

Saw those when Andrew put them up on vuurwapenblog.com a while back. Still great to look at now.

where can i buy a few of those bullet lilies? is that what they are called?

    WaltherKid

it’s what hollow-points do when they hit a target (or in this case, fired under water). opening up like that does a good amount more damage than ball ammo. i’m leaning towards these being .40S&W as hollow-point 9MM usually have a smaller nose. sure looks cool, and will put a few in a lake when I get the chance.

    HoChunk

Dude, put a whole box in and put ’em up on eBay when your done. I know ammo ain’t cheap but you could probably make a… er… killing… selling those things.

    WaltherKid

no kiddin’ on “ain’t cheap”. 9MM is going for what .45 used to run me, when I could actually find it in local retailers. I just picked up a case of 1000 9MM reloads at a gun show, $250+tax! 26-cents a round man.

Those are Remington Golden Saber JHP (jacketed hollow point). Not sure of the caliber. They feature a brass jacket with cuts down the sides to aid in expansion. The FBI has used them – they are very good defensive bullets.

“defensive” bullets? Are there different types of bullets? Can you buy offensive bullets? Serious question, not familiar with guns.

    HoChunk

Yes, the “defensive” bullets are designed to shield you behind a wall of lead.

    DMc77

While all bullets could be described as defensive, I was referring to the usage of hollow point bullets for self defense, rather than full metal jacket or wadcutter type bullets used for training or target shooting. JHP bullets are designed to expand inside a target as they pentrate (as the above pictures show), and usually cost more than other bullet types.

    Ahh I see, thank you.
