I’m going to go with it’s not a strong enough concentration of sunlight. Most vampire stories have the vamp hit with sunlight and catching fire at first, so the effect isn’t instantaneous. Otherwise the stars would burn them too.

There are some pedo overtones, but it is notable that the vampires in this book can’t have sex in any way, and Louis spends the entire book talking about how attractive he finds Lestat and Armand. HINT HINT WINK WINK.

There is pedo stuff in Ann Rice’s later books. And bondage. And bestiality. You name it really. There isn’t really a kink Ann Rice leaves untouched.
