Middle income is probably closer to $1,000,000 to $2,500,000 once you adjust for inflation and asshattery.
That’s right people, you’re the super-poor and they call you middle class so you don’t mass-suicide and take all your funds with you.
September 20, 2012 at 7:23 am
Right, but what he was saying is that the middle income cap was $200,000 to $250,000. Meaning the poeple below that figure where middle income. And let us not forget Obama says the same thing!!!
September 18, 2012 at 10:37 am
Sadly most politicians have some whacked sense of middle, average, reality, etc.
Even more sad – that what anon up there wrote is somewhat true too – middle class is “dying out”, thats where’s that huge income gap is from.
September 18, 2012 at 12:02 pm
Eh its a misrepresentation of what he said. It’s easily seen that he meant that was the upper limit. While wrong on the upper limit, it’s closer to 100k, the above is really just reaching and intellectually dishonest in an argument.
/voting for Obama and we have more then enough evidence this guy is terrible without doing the above.
September 18, 2012 at 12:32 pm
Mitt’s a liar and probably a thief, too, in addition to being completely out of touch with the parts of America that don’t collect dancing horses, but he actually said 200-250 thousand or less. He was just trying to keep up with Obama, without sounding too much like Obama.
September 18, 2012 at 2:04 pm
To be accurate, he said $200,000 to $250,000 OR LESS.
Most of the major outlets that released this have retracted it.
September 18, 2012 at 5:20 pm
Regardless of the “or less” qualifier, the question he was answering was “So is middle income $100,000?”
And his immediate response was “NO”, followed by the $200k-250k quote. Context is still key.
September 18, 2012 at 5:48 pm
Since context is the key, we might as well reference the entire conversation:

But haven’t Obama/Biden also stated that “Middle Class” is $250,000 for a couple/$200,000 for and individual and that THEIR taxes wouldn’t be raised?
September 18, 2012 at 2:13 pm
From Wikipedia:
“As social classes lack clear boundaries and overlap there are no definite income thresholds as for what is considered middle class. Sociologist Leonard Beeghley identifies a male making $57,000 and a female making $40,000 with a combined households income of $97,000 as a typical middle-class family.[30] Sociologists William Thompson and Joseph Hickey estimate an income range of roughly $35,000 to $75,000 for the lower middle class and $100,000 or more for the upper middle class. Many social scientists including economist Michael Zweig and sociologist Dennis Gilbert contend that middle class persons usually have above median incomes.”
Then slap a college education on that.
September 18, 2012 at 2:30 pm
An economist friend said “Working class figures their income by the hour, Middle class by the year and upper class by the increase in net worth, dollar amounts are unimportant”
September 18, 2012 at 2:52 pm
Sounds more like a lazy man’s answer to a hard question, or maybe a very general rule of thumb.
Of course dollar amounts are important; no one would consider a family that can’t afford bread middle class.
September 18, 2012 at 3:00 pm
Think it’s a general rule of thumb. What he’s saying is not so much a precise dollar cut off as an economic lifestyle thing.
September 18, 2012 at 2:15 pm
Obama’s idea of middle class was $120 per person and $240 per household. I don’t see it any different. The true is none of them care about you. Because most of you will listen whatever is on Fox or ABC. And vote without research. Despite “middle” class has the most votes therefore should be the leading voice in the country.
September 18, 2012 at 2:24 pm
When did Obama say that? I remember he said he wouldn’t raise taxes on people who made $120K/year or less, but that’s not defining what is “middle class” it’s just a tax threshold.

Why is it that these political discussions always end up full of anonymous posters? Don’t they know that no one listens if you don’t have a name?
September 19, 2012 at 12:25 am
They’re all Magnus, using proxies (look at all the downvote rage focused on outlanderssc. You think that comes from some cadre of like-minded ignoramuses?)
And he knows nobody reads posts with his name attached, so what’s he got to lose?

Didn’t read, Magnome, but I’ll take a wild guess and assume it doesn’t make any sense.
September 19, 2012 at 6:17 pm
Hmmmm.. People are sick of my comments, so they downvote YOUR comments – very interesting. Or wasn’t it you whining about your 20+ downvotes a while ago?

Thought you have to be logged in to vote on comments and posts?
September 19, 2012 at 7:54 pm
Nope: just upvoted you before logging in.
I also tried to rate images, but that much seems to require being signed on.
September 19, 2012 at 8:36 pm
But you can still only vote once, logged in or not.
September 20, 2012 at 1:09 pm
That explains the changes on the political posts then. People stumping for the candidates by anon votes.

It matters because if people don’t log in there’s no way of keeping track of who’s saying what in a conversation. Now obviously when someone such as yourself has a distinctive flair for misspelling it’s not a big deal but it becomes a real problem when the people involved are literate above a 3rd grade level.

Mitt Romney is middle America? Holy shit, you guys are doing well down there!!

Yuuup, obama still gonna win.
September 19, 2012 at 7:29 pm
By 60% in the electorals, that’s impressive. But I don’t think it’s Obama, it’s Romney sticking his foot in his mouth.

So… I’m the only middle class person posting here?
