You are simply mistaken. That is a drawing of a picture of a test flight of boeing aircraft of their ExpressLiner “cattlecar” quick release airliner. As you can see it has just finished releasing it’s passengers. The chase planes following it have the job of keeping birds and other annoying things away from the passengers in free fall by using their machine guns to kill and destroying those annoyances to make the passengers experience heavenly.

The trailing planes look like 109′s to me.

The trailing planes are Fw190s. The 109s would have a slimmer nose.
