I know. How stupid of countries like Japan and Germany agreeing to a reduced or near non-existent standing armies so they can pump more of their taxes into their economy and infrastructure. I mean, they’re only… the 3rd and 4th largest economies in the world, despite being a mere fraction of the size of the U.S. or China.
Oh, and they can let us Americans do all the dirty work and pay the bill. They’re so stupid.

And after all, it IS the US’s responsibility to deal with all the tyrants, terrorists, genocidal maniacs, sneak attacks and racial cleansing – being the country designated by GOD to be the world’s police and all -
February 24, 2012 at 11:27 pm
Sooo, if we don’t do it.
Who does it?
Dislike my original post all you want, snowflake children. It’s an ugly world and you aren’t all going to get participation trophies for being born.
February 25, 2012 at 12:41 am
It’s an ugly world because of right wing warmongers like you.
I bet you’re one of those ignorant shits that howls at the thought of reducing the military but demand that no single tax will ever be raised.

Actually, that was the United Kingdom, but they lost their will.
Churchill was the last man they had, Thatcher last woman. Shame really.

I’m too lazy to do math; are the years overlapped?
February 24, 2012 at 4:56 am
Counting the cold war is like counting the war on drugs. Neither is really a war.
The Invasion of Grenada was from October 25th 1983 to Jan 3rd 1984, so it’s a little over 2 months, not two years as is implied.
They left off the Korean war which was 2 years.
Operation desert storm was a matter of months, not years.
The same goes for the Invasion of Panama.
Operation United Shield was 3 months, and the purpose was to evac UN troops from Somalia. So it doesn’t belong here.
Let’s be honest and not use BS to inflate the time we’ve been at war.
February 24, 2012 at 5:03 am
yeah, a lot of these dates are off. The Mexican-American War lasted 12 years? lol ok. But I know, I should go feel guilty about all this, that’d be the hip thing to do.
February 24, 2012 at 6:45 pm
frankly i dont think that is the point. i think the point here lies in the fact that most of the u.s.’s history they have been waging wars and involved in conflicts.
February 25, 2012 at 4:29 am
From the beginning of recorded history until today, there has only been something like 200 years total where some part of the world was not at war. The longest single stretch is 26 days.
Avoiding conflict is preferred, but not always possible. I’d like to see how we stack up to countries such as the UK, France, Russia/Soviet Union, and China. I doubt we’d look poor by comparison.

“The longest single stretch is 26 days”
source?
February 24, 2012 at 7:07 am
Tallied the numbers. By these dates, not double-counting for the cold war era conflicts (since the poster talkes about years, period, not years-per-war or something), we’ve been at war for 99 years. And a lot of these dates are very, very, off on the high end of the scale.

Let’s be honest – it’s time to plan the centennial.
February 24, 2012 at 11:42 am
Also the USA entered WWI in 1917…
February 24, 2012 at 1:58 pm
This doesn’t seem very honest at all.
February 24, 2012 at 2:28 pm
Honest…just not very smart.
February 24, 2012 at 6:21 pm
Every country has been at war like his.
Hell Canada was in WWII way longer that the US and we’ve been in Afghanistan for like 10 years now.
this image is shitfuck

The Roman people
Monarchy-753BC-510BC
Republic-509BC-21BC
Empire-21BC-475AD
One of the most powerful nations to ever exist on the planet, was only ever officially recorded to be at peace 5 to 6 times in their 1000 year long dominance.

It’s so funny how Americans think that they’re doing the right thing by killing people in other countries. Why don’t kill tyrants in Africa? There’s plenty. Oh wait… there’s no Oil for you there… okay then, go liberate the oily countries. The rest of the world will never suspect anything.
And NOBODY will say something against your actions… they’d be liberated next…
LOL JK =D And you almost fell for it =D (please don’t kill me)
February 27, 2012 at 9:53 am
There is plenty of oil in Africa, and we have used our troops/drones there too. And every time we stick our noses down there, we get complaints of colonialism. And the goal isn’t necessarily killing people, but when you drop bombs on targets (buildings, AA batteries…) they tend to have people in or near them. If we just wanted to kill people, then we’d drop loads of cluster bombs and mine the heck out of the place. Not everything we do is right, but don’t paint all our actions as bad.

Well, I can’t argue with your statement.
