    actually, they didn’t start calling it canola until the mid-1970s… before that, it was rapeseed oil all the way.

    well, it isn’t so strange that it is called rape in a non English-speaking environment, as the word has no sexual connotation at all. In Sweden for instance, people have no idea what Canola is.
