Mmmm. Purple goo and macaroni salad? What is that on the plate with the heh “onion rings”, oiled raven? And the bugs all over the pus meat looks charming.

The “oiled raven” is seaweed or some kind of leaf. The “bugs” are black sesame seeds I believe. Nothing here that you wouldn’t find at a sushi restaurant (excluding the non-fish meat) or most anywhere in South America. Also: Get some culture!

The Purple Goo is a traditional Hawaiian food known as Poi aka ground Taro root. Definitely not for everyone, but tastes damn good mixed with other stuff. I dunno where you get onion rings. Nothing here looks like onion rings. The bottom picture is three different kinds of Ahi Poke. Get some culture bro.

Think he meant onion rings beside the shredded meat.
This all looks damn tasty. Whole lotta good flavors and textures. I passed on decent sushi a few nights ago, and now that Ahi is making me hungry.
And I thought the Poi was yogurt 🙂

I hate you
Been missing Hawaiian food more and more lately, and so much of it requires ingredients you just can’t find in this mud-hole of a flyover state.

These pics are from a friend of mines organic Hawaiian Restaurant in California. He is from Maui. Cool guy, his food is expensive because it is specialized/rare food. But worth ever penny. Best I have had on the mainland. Poke. Kalua Pork, and Lau Lau are my faves!
