Ragardless: If someone assaults and officer OR ANY OTHER PERSON, they should expect force to be used in kind. If someone threw rocks (potently lethal), bottles (potently lethal), M-80 explosives (high positional for permanent life altering disability), I would shoot them (potently lethal).
I would sleep well at night, and quite frankly have little doubt that a jury of my peers would exonerate me, if charges were even pressed. But of course I live in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
“During the evening protest, a number of officers were assaulted, doused with hazardous materials and hit with large rocks and bottles, which resulted in the declaration of an unlawful assembly and the order to disperse. To assist in the dispersal efforts, officers used less lethal force tactics.
At approximately 10:00pm this evening, a group of approximately 300 protesters in the area of Frank Ogawa Plaza began throwing large rocks and bottles at officers after receiving the order to disperse, which again prompted the use of less than lethal munitions.”

That quote is from the OPD statement.
The Oakland PD originally denied using non-lethal projectiles and weapons against the protesters, claiming, “the loud noises that were heard originated from M-80 explosives thrown at Police by protesters.”

True, but without a time line it is hard to to make an accusation of deliberate false hood. Oakland is not a small 10 member police dept. It takes time for reports to filter up the food chain, reports that can not be written when people are destroying property
