Indoor growing. Pumps fill the cups to water the plants for so many minutes…..(ebb) and then drains out to let the roots breathe (flow). Works very well.

While I think you described the action pretty well, don’t you have the terms backwards? The flow would be the filling of the cups, and the ebbing the emptying, no?

Yeah, probably… . I figured it didn’t really matter as most of the people on this site 1. wouldn’t know and 2. wouldn’t give a shit. I use dirt now.
Another way to put it is “Ebb and Flood”, so yeah, you’re totally right.
