Don’t they equip sniper rifles with laser sights or something more advanced than ordinary optics?

i am not a gun expert, but i think you need to SEE your target.

laser would totally negate the purpose of a sniper. a red dot in a dark night would be an instant sign to all opposing forces that there is a shooter nearby plus they can see exactly what the shooter is pointing at. As well as being a total hindrance when it comes to compensating for wind speed and direction.
thermal scopes much better.

It wouldn’t have to be a visible laser, and maybe they could use a computer to calculate wind speed/direction. I’m sure there are clever engineers out there to think of these things.

sometimes you just want to let the other guy know that you have his life in your hands. killing is not always the best result.

That’s why they have infrared lasers. You can only see it if you have night vision optics.

A true sniper must always rely on his sniper training. Snipers probably don’t like having sophisticated gear with them. I’m sure they’re all much more comfortable with the rifle that they’ve spent training with in sniper school.
To a sniper, there is no technology that can be a substitute for their training.
But there are grenade launchers that utilize lasers to accurately gauge distance and firing arc.

A famed Russian sniper prefered to shoot with bare iron sights and he was at the top of his game, even though optics of the era (WWII) weren’t as advanced as today’s.

I think you’re thinking of Simo, he was Finnish and killed a bunch of Russians.

Vasily Zaytsev killed some guys with a standard rifle, but most (hundreds) were with a scope.

Guns for show, knives for a pro.
I’m a ninja, I should know.
Pussies use lasers.

A sniper is only as good as his/her spotter.
July 2, 2011 at 5:27 pm
you know in scout sniper school, if the spotter can’t judge wind correctly it will be his partner who fails and not the spotter.
teamwork is essential.
