    1. Such a stupid argument. Girls, you gotta pick and choose what you wear and when. Seriously, if you really want to dress like skanks at parties or whatnot, wear it under your normal clothes and change later. Or keep it in your purse or something.

I mean, lets be realistic here for a second. You can’t count on the rest of humanity to play by the rules.

It’s like me walking around with my money paperclipped to the outside of my jacket.

I can’t count on the goodness of people enough to walk through a city and expect people not to snatch my money.

I hereby rename this walk to “Dumbass Walk Toronto”.

          • The point of this event was to call out people who say women are partly or completely to blame for getting raped because of what they wear. Any person should be able to go where ever they please wearing whatever they please without fear of sexual assault, just as you should be able to walk down the street with money paper clipped to your jacket. Just because you made it more tempting for someone to rob you does not mean you share blame for the crime.

If I’m sexually attracted to dudes in glasses does that make it your fault if I rape you?

            • That only idea only works in an utopia. Thats fantasy.

Unfortunately the real world doesn’t work like that, and if you treat it as a fantasy and get injured then you are for sure partly to blame.

Its the same exact principle as wearing blue do-rag in a neighborhood controlled by the Bloods.

I can’t just stroll out there and flaunt it and expect not to get jumped because I’m not a Crip.

You see they may be victims, but if they instigate it, if they KNEW that it could have been prevented, if they KNEW that what they where wearing would possibly put themselves in danger and STILL ignored all warning signs, then YES they are partly responsible.

            • It’s context though explorer – obviously anyone who puts genuine blame on someone who is raped for just the way they dress is wrong/an oddball – but you can’t take that kind of advice hand in hand with blame. If your mom says, on your way to a party, “take care – stick with your friends and make sure your cell is charged” some people (regarding this argument) are acting like she just said “you walk alone + don’t answer your phone within 3 rings and you should consider yourself free for any criminal to take advantage of” Just like saying “its a rough area, try to keep yourself to yourself/dress sensibly” isn’t saying “put a boiler suit on, or dont come crying to me when you get raped”

Its a minor piece of advice, it’s a little tip to err on the side of caution (albeit at the small cost of freedoms) – so if you want to infer some sort of massive legal implication in terms of how you dress then you need to reconsider what was meant by it.

(advanced appols if I have missed the original issue, perhaps some idiot did say women are partly to blame [the way they dress]..)

            • I don’t think I made myself entirely clear. If you dress in slutty clothing and hang out in a bad area where you’re likely to be raped you’re A grade fucking retarded, but that still doesn’t shift any blame from the rapist to the victim.

The rally was in response to a senior Toronto police officer recommending women avoid wearing slutty clothing as this makes them greater targets for rape, which is common sense and something I agree with. I didn’t know that when I made my first comment, I just assumed that was in response to the many people (mostly religious extremists) who DO place the blame on women for being raped because they wore immodest clothing, which often by their definition is anything that doesn’t cover all skin. Probably should have done some research first but it’s a topic that makes me real fucking angry.

    3. Its about girls who think they can dress up like hoes then go out to bad neighborhoods and think that they won’t get raped.

Pretty much just about lack of common sense.

In a perfect world, they can dress however they want and be fine. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect world and you must take initiative and avoid places that may not be safe and wear clothes that do not attract unwanted attention.

      Common sense people. C’mon.

They need to learn to take responsability for their actions, nuff reports of rape are made when hot girls get drunk at some party and consent to sex, or just sober with some guy and then she reports afterwards that she was forced and said no multiple times, enough of sexual assault reports are bogus anyways when they regret their desicion in the morning, they should grow the fuck up already

    8. Are all of the intelligent people asleep on this one? Every comment on this page so far is a demonstration of ignorance, and quite frankly most of you are morons. I’m really surprised no women have commented.

The way a person is dressed has ZERO effect on another person’s ability to make a responsible decision. It also does NOT imply consent. If it did, all public beaches in the USA would be open season for raping at will.

Maybe we should pass a new law that says if you are an ignorant moron it’s legal to just smack you in the head with a book whenever you deserve it.

No means No and that’s all there is to it. If she changed her mind, call her a bitch, and move on. Date rape is out of control. There are way too many guys who think it’s just fine to slip a roofie and go to town on a girl. If it were up to me, castration would be an option for repeat sex offenders.

      • Bushman are you actually blanket calling anyone who tries to discuss the subject as lacking intelligence?

We don’t know how the comment was made, its just very likely it was made as a precautionary tip to minimize odds of being targetted – any element of blame was just inferred.

        • If you get robbed because of an open door in your private property, then this is illegal like any other robbery. So, if you rape a short dressed woman you are none the less guilty as if you raped a nun. Is it clear now? Common sense is a thing, but TEH LAW should not make any distinction between those conditions.

          Reply

          • No one is arguing that someone who rapes a sluttily dressed girl shouldn’t prosecuted. It is their fault and they should be held accountable by the legal system.

That does not change the fact that being stupid and putting yourself in dangerous situations is both dangerous and stupid.

If I walked through the ghetto holding $200, I would expect to get robbed. I would also be a complete idiot and deserve to get slapped in the head, but that doesn’t mean that the robber doesn’t deserve to go to jail. Similarly a girl who walks around a dangerous part of town at night, alone, in a short skirt, should expect that something bad might happen. I would hope her mom, older sister, or friends would slap some sense into her, but if that doesn’t happen it makes rape much more likely. That doesn’t mean she’s responsible, but it means she has a lot to learn about life.

To correct your comparison: if you’re an if ignorant moron and you walk around with a swastika on your arm it is legal to smack you on the head while arresting you. According to you that swastika should have no bearing on how the person is treated. Yet they can be arrested.

Cops tell you to not advertise your system.

They also know it’s a lot harder to stop crime, so they help people stop it from happening in the first place.

I no longer play it loud near my house.

Why women just can’t listen to reason, is beyond me.

I think women WANT to get raped.

If I decided to play my music loud everywhere, you would think I wanted my system to get stolen.

But if you did, and someone broke in to your car and took it, you’d report it, then bitch about it on here for months. Don’t be a fuckwit.

To say that women who wear a short skirt WANT to be raped is horribly ignorant of you. Yes, there is a time and a place, and walking down a dark alley in the middle of the city in a mini dress is a fucking stupid idea.
But I used to work in a club where I HAD to wear “provocative” clothes. It was my job. Does that mean that when I got changed after work, and walked to my car in jeans and a long jacket, if I’d been assaulted I would have had to take some of the responsibility for it?

We all no that we don’t live in a utopian society. The point it that young women, regardless of how they dress, are usually thought of as slutty. Doesn’t matter how they dress. Particularly now that everything seems to be sexualised.

Yes, women do need to stop and think about whether or not they are dressed appropriately. But everyone knows that. The point of these walks is that there needs to be more education on the subject. It’s easier for society to say “Well they were dressed like a slut in the bad area of town” than to say “We have a real problem with the mentality in this community and we need to deal with it”

    11. At least 45% of rapists were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In 29% of rapes, the offender used a weapon.
In 47% of rapes, the victim sustained injuries other than rape injuries.
75% of female rape victims require medical care after the attack.

According to the Justice Department, one in two rape victims are under age 18; one in six are under age 12.

Rape has nothing to do with dress. This has everything to do with violent crime. Rapists don’t suddenly see a hot girl in a short skirt and decide to rape her. They have mental issues to start with, and most of the rapes are premeditated or done under the influence. Given that 1 in 2 rapes are committed on CHILDREN under the age of 18, do you really expect your “don’t dress this way” logic to hold? You are a bunch of assholes that are trying to justify your bad actions and/or thoughts.

      • “Given that 1 in 2 rapes are committed on CHILDREN under the age of 18, do you really expect your “don’t dress this way” logic to hold?”

If I told you over half of the robberies in the U.S. were not caused by someone walking around with a giant wad of cash in their hand it doesn’t mean that walking around with a giant wad of cash in your hand is a good idea.

Again no one is saying all rapes are because of provocative dress or because women go to bars alone. Obviously there are multiple factors that go into it, mainly being the intention of the rapist to rape someone. Nevertheless that does NOT excuse women from taking reasonable precautions.

This is not that complex. I lock my doors at night because I don’t want to get robbed. I don’t go to the ghetto at night because I don’t want to get shot. If I didn’t take these precautions and one of these things does happen ultimately it is perpetrator’s fault, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t take the precautions.

No one here is saying that women can’t dress how they want or that they can’t go to bars, but damn its not hard to keep some friends around, not take drinks from strangers, and to avoid dark areas.

And yes drugs/alcohol would clearly play a huge role in a rapists decision in many cases. That doesn’t mean that a girl alone in a bar in a short skirt won’t further tempt the guy. To argue otherwise is blithely retarded.

        Reply

        • Must be nice that you don’t have to go to the ghetto. Some people don’t get that choice. I recently just moved out from a low income neighborhood, and while the crime there was atrocious and I would have loved to avoid it, I didn’t have much of an option when it came to my dog needing to pee or me going to my car to get to work.

I don’t think that children discussed earlier (1 in 2 rapes are committed on children under age 18) were in bars to tempt the men either. The drugs/alcohol came from somewhere else. That argument loses a lot of water.

I don’t think that a girl going to a bar in a short skirt should necessary equal rape. To argue that it does is blithely retarded.

What do you think a mini skirt around a guy who isn’t used to seeing ankle in his home country will do? That’s why the police here said quit dressing like sluts. The rapists are shit skins. There was an attack around the corner from where I live. The suspect? Brown and the shit that crawls from your ass. He doesn’t live aorund ehre of course but he likes to come and grope white women.
