Definitely human involvement. They have HUGE blocks of lead resting on the opposite side, and they also under-excavated it to help reduce the lean.
Yep, humans. But please note that the building used as a reference point in this picture isn’t exactly on firm ground either.
Those stairs are hell to walk. With a combination of the hollowed-out steps of the stairs and the lean of the tower you feel like a sweaty drunk climbing up there.
Pretty much everything is the area is off-kilter. There are actually five towers in Piza and they all lean.

They look the same to me as well TGGeko. And is that a bird, the SAME bird under the window farthest on the right on the second floor of the building in the foreground? That’s a long time to hang around a window.

It’s not a bird, it’s something else that is stationary.
ok ok, here is the reference point I used. Notice the building in the foreground had little spires, similar to little lightning rods. Take the one just to the left of the pisa tower. You can see the tower is closer to that spire in the modern picture, provided the pictres were taken from the same angle as they appear to be. BTW this was taken from a newsweek photo album.
Are there any actual photos of the inside of the tower? The central atrium is blocked off from view by a huge curtain. I remember walking the stairs, but I also vaguely remember having to leave my camera in a locker before going into the tower (and that’s why I have no photos from inside or on the top of it). Either that or I was severely high.
