also, if you hook these up to an amp (the speakers, and a HPF amp) they will sound amazing compared to stock, and a lot better if they were just hooked up to the head unit.
I strongly suggest everyone go get this.
It’s a great deal.
I’m going to get it for my dad.

No thanks, I’ll stick to listening to live big-band music.

This isn’t an alternative to that. I think you have this mistaken for something else?
Or do you not listen to music in the car?

I bring my big band with me.

How long does it take to setup?

I would love to have a USB enabled head unit in my truck. but I have to buy mounting kits and panels for like $100 just so it looks right. What kind of USB stick are you going to go with? what is the highest capacity it will take? It just seems so easy to fill it up w/ a weeks worth of songs, we you get tired of them, switch them out with other stuff. Been doing it with my cell phone, thru AUX input, just haven’t bought any new albums lately..

People still buy music?

I don’t really like USB/SD on head units.
There is no good way to browse/find songs you want.
I use my phone with the 3.5mm and 8gb micro SD card.
The USB is handy if you have a playlist or something though.
USB was cool when it first came out. Then I realized you can’t actually browse effectively unless the device has a 7″ screen, otherwise, you can’t properly navigate through the songs.

I have a Pioneer AVH-4200DVD & an iPhone. I love it.

$400
Does it have navigation?
If not, I don’t see the point of a double din head unit.
December 23, 2010 at 8:29 pm
It doesn’t have nav, but I really like the double DIN because I can get all the song info I need at a glance, the touch screen controls make navigating song lists pretty easy, and this is the unit it was replacing: static.howstuffworks.com/gif/vehicle-pictures/2003/acura/cl/1780-057-radio-unit-closeup-480.jpg
I had a single DIN in my old Acura and it always looked kind of goofy (partially because of the shitty single-DIN dash kits).
December 24, 2010 at 11:32 pm
You had the single din kit too? That’s what I have now and had in my 89 s-15. the mustang was single din so it looked good.
I didn’t know until recently that you could actually put a double din unit in these cars. best buy in CALI told me it was not possible.
I am trying to trade some stuff for a double din with navi, but the $500+ price is a bit ridiculous.
Saw one on CL for $350 which is a lot more reasonable.
I might just wait till I get a job and to financing.

When I’m looking for quality stereo equipment, I always head straight to Walmart.com
December 22, 2010 at 12:31 am
Then you obviously don’t know what quality is.

Have the same system. Love it.

It truly is a great head unit.
I can’t see how anyone would find it “garbage” – yet people still say it is.
They are just mad that they paid over $300 for their “high voltage pre out” deck – which is basically a useless feature geared towards selling $300 decks.
