It just bugs me that people of faith (regardless of which faith, mostly) think they’ve done something significant in the lives of these people by the simple act of giving them bibles, that they may not even be able to read. Certainly there are many christian groups that give much more concrete help for the lives of people in tragic or desperate situations. Unfortunately even most of those don’t do much in the way of sustainable aid. Giving away rice to the starving is, ostensibly, a good deed…except when it destroys the already fragile economic system. Giving aid is usually much more complex and nuanced than simply handing out food and water, or even treating disease and injury.
