FAIL logic, majority rules. Get over it.
September 20, 2010 at 1:29 pm
And disagreeing with gay marriage because of your personal religious beliefs but not divorce even though the latter is wrong according to your religion too is logical? Please.
Or maybe it was about time to not let the majority decide how minorities should live their lives any more.
September 20, 2010 at 8:27 pm
woahwoahwoah he never said anything about religious beliefs. How do you know what his religious beliefs are. :3 (Psychic Powers?)
September 21, 2010 at 1:16 am
Because his UID is #112, I’ve spoken to him before and I know he’s religious.
September 21, 2010 at 12:55 pm
You are correct.
September 21, 2010 at 1:34 am
You see his UID?
September 21, 2010 at 5:07 am
Because, moron, the only arguments against gay marriage are based out of religious bullshit.
September 21, 2010 at 6:45 am
There are two people on this very site, that aren’t religious and aren’t in favour of gay people or gay rights. Homophobia is not enough to tell if one is religious so he could have been right. Which is why I always say I’d rather have a liberal Christian than a far right wing atheist.
September 21, 2010 at 4:55 pm
And, yet, they still don’t have any arguments to support their view that don’t boil down to religious arguments. There’s absolutely no other reason to give two shits whether or not gay people get married.
September 21, 2010 at 5:38 pm
Well yeah they do. Please don’t make me repeat them, they’re just as bigoted as the religious argument but they are in fact not related to religion.
Far right wing atheists are not very common, but I’ve noticed that many people who would be bigoted if they were religious, just find something else to “worship.” Like their country. So for those people it may be a side effect of wanting to fit in with the rest of the far right bunch who are religious. Anyway just search MCS for threads on homosexuality and you’ll see what I mean. I think it’s important to not assume things about people in discussions, however unlikely an alternative is. That’s the kind of thought pattern that you would expect from those who can’t support their arguments with scientific facts alone.
September 21, 2010 at 9:58 am
@ Tyger42
Not true, I think its yukky.
September 21, 2010 at 10:18 am
So why then, would you care if they get married, but not about civil unions?
Your Christian rhetoric gives you away.
September 21, 2010 at 4:59 pm
And I think the idea of trailer trash marrying and breeding is yucky. That’s no reason to outlaw it. Give me a valid argument against gay marriage that doesn’t come back to religion. “It’s yucky” isn’t a valid argument.
September 22, 2010 at 6:18 am
Yeah, you have no idea the things I seen packed into mini skirts at my bar in SC.
People don’t like different, and it takes a little while for it to sink in for most. Just like any other kind of hate, it takes awhile to go away.
Just like any other rights group im sure in the end they will be fighting not for equal but for more rights.
September 21, 2010 at 8:09 am
The only reason the majority was given the opportunity to decide was to see if the gays should be given the same “legal” rights.
September 21, 2010 at 9:46 am
Constitutional fail – majority does not rule in cases of basic human rights. “All men are created equal” does not mean “men like us only”
September 20, 2010 at 8:17 pm
I could advance a cogent argument but in the service of brevity I’ll just simply say “fuck you, asshole”.
September 20, 2010 at 10:25 pm
Please tell me that was in an Arnie voice?
September 20, 2010 at 10:53 pm
September 20, 2010 at 10:08 pm
Majority rules, minorities protected against abuse from majority.
September 20, 2010 at 11:03 pm
I love the deliciously palpable irony in the fact that same argument is used by so many who describe themselves as constitutionalists or people who follow it word for word. The same people who whine and bitch that democracy is being sabotaged when the judicial branch actually does one of the jobs it’s meant to do when it keeps from becoming law the opinion of a supposed majority concerning minority rights. Something that should never have been and never should be up for a public referendum in the first place.
September 20, 2010 at 11:28 pm
So you’d also support racial segregation in the south?
September 21, 2010 at 12:01 am
Actually the majority does rule, but only at the price that it is not allowed to tyrannize the minority, get over it.
September 21, 2010 at 1:18 am
Do you not grasp the concept of a constitution? I guess not.
September 21, 2010 at 5:06 am
As was said during the civil rights movement in the 60s, majority rule, but minority rights.
September 21, 2010 at 8:06 am
For those interested I’m not homophobic. I do believe homosexuality is wrong but I don’t look down on any gay person. I hate the sin but not the person. My best friend is gay and I wish he wasn’t but that’s where I leave it. Am I religious? Yes, but I don’t follow any one specific denomination (Catholic, Baptist, Luthern, etc.)but I base all my beliefs on the Bible and I go to a church that teaches from the Bible. If someone asks me what I believe I tell them and I invite people to attend my church but I don’t go around “bible thumping” and I never push my beliefs on others.
If the Bible says it’s wrong then it is therefore homosexuality is wrong but masturbation is NOT wrong (and it is not adultery). Being drunk is wrong but drinking is not. Wild, crazy sex is NOT wrong but having sex outside of marriage is(even though I have done it. Divorce is wrong, too.
September 21, 2010 at 8:18 am
Dude, if homosexuality exists it’s because God wishes it so. Otherwise you’re implying that there is another force, equal or superior to God, which can dictate reality.
September 21, 2010 at 8:48 am
The logic is their.
September 21, 2010 at 12:59 pm
God gives people free will to choose to live the way they want. I could say that it’s the devil that influences people to sin but I feel it would be a complete waste of time.
September 21, 2010 at 1:03 pm
Yeah, if you said that last part it would prove that you didn’t believe the first part. Either you believe in free will or don’t.
September 21, 2010 at 8:28 am
“My best friend is gay and I wish he wasn’t but that’s where I leave it.”
No you’re not leaving it there. You’re voting against his rights or are in support of other people doing so. What kind of friendship is that?
And ultimately what you’re saying is that you’re a sinner too. So, when does everyone else get to vote against your rights based on their personal religious beliefs? Why is the right to get divorced not up for debate?
September 21, 2010 at 1:07 pm
If a majority group wants to get together and make an attempt against itself – so be it – because that’s what it would be doing. It’s been shown that the majority doesn’t approve of gay marriage, or more specifically, allowing gay couples the same legal rights as hetero couples.
BTW- Call me a hypocrite but I voted democratic during the last election although I feel if there was an Independent I would have voted that way.
September 21, 2010 at 8:36 am
I find this hilarious:
“Am I religious? Yes, but I don’t follow any one specific denomination”
and then you go and say :
“but I base all my beliefs on the Bible and I go to a church that teaches from the Bible.”
hate to break it to ya, but it sounds like you’re a christian.
September 21, 2010 at 1:12 pm
I’m a Christian. I didn’t say I wasn’t.
My point was that a true Christian only follows the Bible. Organized denominations, say the Catholic church, get it wrong by following a group of men placing their own everchanging opinions/beliefs, onto their followers.
September 21, 2010 at 1:15 pm
Translation: “I’m a true Christian. I’ve got it right where a billion people got it wrong”.
I guess you don’t believe that majority rules in all situations, eh?
September 21, 2010 at 9:49 am
Note: US is NOT a Theocracy. What teh Bible says don’t mean squat.
September 21, 2010 at 9:52 am
He just keeps digging himself in deeper. Stupid fake Christian!
September 21, 2010 at 5:20 pm
You realize the whole basis of “homosexuality is a sin” is misinterpretation of Bible verses, right?
September 21, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Sorry, you are homophobic. You can claim otherwise, but it doesn’t change this little detail… “I do believe homosexuality is wrong.”
June 19, 2012 at 8:50 am
Bullshit, you don’t base your beliefs on the bible, you base them on church dogma based on bad translations of the bible. For example you say that sex outside of marriage is wrong. Well, according to the bible, (sans bad translations) men can have sex with any woman they like, as long as she isn’t married to someone else. Women on the other hand are guilty of adultery if they have sex outside of marriage.
September 20, 2010 at 8:04 pm
Double standerds!!!!!
September 20, 2010 at 9:10 pm
Stop the discrimination against gays! We must allow same-sex marriages!
Stop the discrimination against poligamists! We must allow people to marry as many people as they want!
Stop the discrimination against narcissists! We must allow people to marry themselves!
Stop the discrimination against Apple Fanboys! We must allow people to marry their iPhones!
Stop the discrimination against necrophiles! We must allow people to marry corpses!
Stop the discrimination against Republicans! We must allow people to marry corporations!
Stop the discrimination against Democrats! We must allow people to marry other people’s money!
Stop the discrimination against rednecks! We must allow people to marry their pick-up trucks!
Stop the discrimination against southerners! We must allow men to marry their sisters and mothers (the same person)!
Stop the discrimination against philosophers! We must allow people to marry abstract concepts!
Stop the discrimination against Linux users! We must allow people to marry inflatable dolls and Fleshlights!
Stop the discrimination against Twilight fans! We must allow people to marry fictional characters!
Stop the discrimination against WoW players! We must allow people to marry their avatars!
Stop the discrimination against Catholic priests! We must allow people to marry… oh, wait no. Screw the goddamn Catholic priests.
Anyway, who are YOU to define what is real love and what isn’t, eh? Who are YOU to say that a man’s love for his own hand cannot possibly compare to a man’s love for his wife? A man’s hand NEVER LETS HIM DOWN! IT NEVER SAYS NO!!! IT NEVER HAS A HEADACHE!!! IT NEVER COMPLAINS THAT YOU DON’T TALK TO IT ANYMORE!!! Let’s see if you can say the same about your wife! If you don’t allow people to marry their own hands, it obviously means you’re a handophobic bigot!!!!
(Double standards indeed…)
September 20, 2010 at 9:16 pm
Read this. It’ll help.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope
September 20, 2010 at 9:40 pm
haha you make that up all by yourself did you? I gotta say some of those are pretty funny.
September 20, 2010 at 11:31 pm
Except if you take into account the concept of consent which a lot of people seem to overlook when they pile on the hyperbole.
September 21, 2010 at 1:20 am
This guy is proof that religion clogs your brain.
September 21, 2010 at 5:59 am
My favorite post.
September 21, 2010 at 8:19 am
Actually, who cares mate? Let people marry their trucks. What do I care? Jesus fucking Christ.
September 21, 2010 at 9:52 am
Slippery slope argument = major fail.
Marriage is a legal contract, you can’t enter into legal contracts with inanimate objects.
September 20, 2010 at 8:12 pm
OH SNAP
September 20, 2010 at 9:05 pm
Well fuck you. I was on your side, but now since you’re telling me how to live my life you’re no better than the homophobic bigots.
September 21, 2010 at 1:21 am
Change-sides-over-bumper-sticker win!
September 21, 2010 at 6:09 am
bumper stickers can change the world, don’t underestimate them.
September 20, 2010 at 9:41 pm
I’m actually for this. Can’t really talk about sanctity while you divorce because of disenchantment.
September 21, 2010 at 1:24 am
That right there
is consistency.
September 20, 2010 at 10:16 pm
Everything else aside, who said any group could co-opt the rainbow?
September 20, 2010 at 11:43 pm
This is so clear, how can you all miss this: DOUBLE RAINBOW, OMG!
September 21, 2010 at 1:23 am
This is what happens when you let Christians vote for things they do not have the right to vote for in the first place. Other people get their rights taken away.
September 21, 2010 at 6:08 am
Ever seen a map of Christian followers? Thats a pretty big chunk of people to ignore.
Same sex marriage is one of last things we need to stop them from fucking up.
September 21, 2010 at 8:21 am
If you’re an adult and you fanatically follow your invisibly sky wizard imaginary friend and use it to justify treating others as subhumans, you shouldn’t be ignored. You should be institutionalised.
September 21, 2010 at 1:25 am
They should get over it and move to Europe already, 50% give or take doesnt want m in the US anyways
September 21, 2010 at 1:39 am
Let the other 50% move. I’m stayin’ put.
September 21, 2010 at 3:00 am
Well,
1) Only 28% of people in the U.S. believe gays shouldn’t have legal rights akin to marriage.
2) It’s not better here in Europe.
But, y’know, if you want to go on and keep making up shit in your head, and then telling it to other people like it’s reality, go ahead. Unfortunately, reality will disagree with you. It’s tenacious like that.
September 21, 2010 at 4:07 am
Prolly cuz same sex marrige is forbidden pretty much everywhere in the states ? So if only 28% is against that then why aint it allowed
September 21, 2010 at 6:02 am
28% of the people speak out. Others don’t like to seem to be a bigot.
September 21, 2010 at 6:06 am
50% don’t want them in the US? Where did that number come from? Not like they crossed the border or anything. I think they need to keep their shit in private.
I don’t want to hear a man talk about giving blowjobs just like I don’t want a farmer talking about helping a sheep through the fence
September 21, 2010 at 6:46 am
I agree but what its the reason why same sex marrige is forbidden, cuz of religion or just that the majority voted against it
September 21, 2010 at 1:28 am
I’m shocked KumguzzlarKvC isn’t here yet.
September 21, 2010 at 7:07 pm
Haven’t seen him in a bit.
September 21, 2010 at 2:01 am
We threw his ass in an oven.
September 21, 2010 at 5:40 am
Thank you for imposing your sharia law.
Don’t rest on your laurels. Carry your marriage-defending momentum and get to work outlawing divorce. Extra credit if you can outlaw inter-faith and inter-racial marriage!
September 21, 2010 at 6:00 am
Marriage was made for a man and a woman. If not marriage their should be a higher union for gays.
I agree with the bumper sticker divorce cost too much +1 for spouse murder.
September 21, 2010 at 6:13 am
Perhaps you don’t realize that marriage wasn’t invented by, or depends on, religion. Heck, Christianity didn’t jump on the whole marriage thing until 1400 years after the alleged death of Jesus.
Actually, if you check the bible there are plenty of instances where marriage is between one man and several women, or one woman and one rapist.
September 21, 2010 at 8:23 am
How about we just end marriage altogether and create civil unions for everyone? If you want to throw a party at your favorite church, go right ahead, but keep your fantasies off my legislative system, thank you very much.
September 21, 2010 at 7:08 pm
Exactly.
September 21, 2010 at 9:23 pm
^^This.
January 12, 2012 at 5:45 am
This is along the same vein as my personal belief. Gay couples pay taxes just like the straight ones. Marriage is first and foremost a CIVIL and LEGAL matter. Most, if not all (I could be wrong, and it is highly likely that I am) pastors, priests, and other religious officials with the power to legally marry people require a marriage license before they will even begin planning out the ceremony. So why deny tax-paying, consenting, ADULT citizens who just happen to like the same sex the right to wed?
September 21, 2010 at 9:29 pm
75TH!!!
September 22, 2010 at 6:08 am
If not letting gay folk get married is ‘up there’ on your list of important shit, you’re might be a bit sheltered.
Lol, go watch some gay porn and stroke the frustration out.
September 22, 2010 at 7:53 am
Exactly!
January 12, 2012 at 11:39 am
wait, if homosexuality is outlawed by the bible, how is heterosexual masturbation not?
yeah, that.
or if it really is, then you’re an orthodox Jew, and the list of ‘wrong things’ is really long. but lesbian relationships are perfectly ok, because the Torah never said they weren’t.
ridiculous, all of it.
