$7.95 for a movie ticket? Where can I get that kind of deal!? — $10.75 a head here. A movie date with snacks runs practically $40.

    metalhead2061

Buy a pair of cargoes and sneak that shit in, yo.

    WistfulD

smuggling popcorn in your cargo pants tends to leave a dry cleaning nightmare.

    Lamb

    backpack…

    the.kenzo

I pay $5 for a movie ticket, I feel sorry for those of you who have to pay an arm and a leg.

    Lamb

    Yeah, me too.

    WistfulD

And where is this paradise of 1985-era cinema pricing? We’re not talking about discount theaters that show movies that came out six months ago, are we?

    Lamb

    Romania, in my case.

    the.kenzo

    Near Las Vegas for me.

    nyoki

1st run movie theater, arena seating, $5-$6 per ticket before 6pm.

    Genkora

It forgot to mention that Redbox only has DVDs with scratches all over them.

    WistfulD

Netflix has that problem as well. Not as bad, but they do. I always burn them and then use digital correction (which works more than 50% of the time) before sending it to my MacTV drive.

    RSIxidor

How is streaming NOT convenient? Hello, you have to go NOWHERE? WTF PEOPLE

    WistfulD

I’m not clear where you think someone said otherwise. Netflix has it, Redbox will likely have it soon… where is there a problem?

    RSIxidor

They gave the ‘convenience’ thing to Redbox a the bottom, and that is dumb.

    tiki god

cause you can’t stream all the recent releases. in fact, you have to wait at least 30 days for the vast majority of them now

    RSIxidor

Yeah, but you do not have to go anywhere at all. 30 days is an okay wait for that, especially considering there is a great catalog of old movies to watch while you wait.

    conan776

    Rapidshare + Jdownloader, imo

    bstaples

Netflix streaming selection sucks. And I wont order by mail because i dont want to be responsible for losing it or breaking it or something.

    Torrents FTW

    RSIxidor

I have lost and broken DVDs, reported as such and got either a replacement of the one I had out or the next in my queue.

    bstaples

Gamefly made me pay for the disks I broke, after they banned my address. =|

    RSIxidor

Gamefly is this way, and it sucks because of that. My mate has been on Gamefly almost since founding, and he can still get charged for the disks.

    WistfulD

In reference to Torrents, that’s a whole different ballpark. We just had that History-of-the-internet post that referenced Napster (That was 11 years ago?!?!?). If you want to go the illegal-but-unenforceable route, of course your going to get an even better deal. You just have to rationalize that you apparently really believe that other people should spend millions of dollars on creating intellectual property (that you could literally live without, no one’s keeping life-sustaining pharmaceuticals from you)and you believe that you should be allowed to have it for free, not for any reasoned logical argument, but instead mostly because they can’t technologically stop you from taking it for free. When you are 20, that’s not a hard argument to make. When you say it out loud to your friends as a supposed adult over 30, it makes you feel really really stupid.

    Just saying.

    tiki god

    ugh.
    yes and yes.

but it’s still so much easier to just click 3 or 4 times and 10 minutes later you have a 720p file done and ready to watch.

    Lamb

You’re a moron, sorry. You really are.

    I could explain why you’re a moron, but I won’t.

    WistfulD

I’m sorry, but that’s the equivalent of being “really brave while your running away.” As in you are all prepared to call me a moron, but not prepared to actually pony up an argument as to why it is so.

I’ll be clear. I’ve used file-sharing services… many times. I knew darn well that my favorite performer spent months developing their new acts in the hope that it would turn into box office/top forty/NY Times Best Seller list gold for them and provide them with a profitable career. I was a 20-something idiot who listened to the “information wants to be free” BS and decided that I DESERVED this digital entertainment. I can see you are stuck in the same immature reality.

Please try to think about the consequences of your actions (not saying that you should stop, since I think the end result is unavoidable, but you should have the self-respect to feel remorse). Right now, more than half of movies that are put out don’t make a profit. No small part of this has to do with people torrenting them instead of checking them out in theaters. Due to this trend, movie budgets will shrink, producers will continue to only fund “sure thing” films like the sequels to last year’s blockbuster. If in ten years, they are filming Iron Man VII, but the graphics are worse than the first movie, feel free to blame torrenters who thing they deserve to see the movie for free.

And sorry, Lamb, when the adults gather and actually discuss things using things like reason and dialogue, it won’t be me that sounds like a moron.

    Lamb

This is why I called you a moron.

The movie industry is flourishing, it’s going better than ever for them. People that use torrents and actually like the movie (and have the money) they’re going to go see it at the cinema, they’re going to buy the dvd.

Look at 2012, Most downloaded torrent in 2009, IMMENSE profit. And that was a really shitty movie. I mean REALLY shitty.

I know what example you’re going to use, Wolverine Origins, shitty effects. And then they blamed the torrent community and the guy that released it on the web before the effects were done. No, that movie was for x-men fans… a few went to it told friends it was shit, they didn’t go.

If torrents were a real problem rent shops would not exist… they buy a few copies and rent them to anyone. None of the renting money goes to the people that made the movie.

Get off of your damn high horse and stop calling yourself an adult… you’re just a moron that listens to people bitch about losing money while in their Bentleys. Not only are they not losing money, but if they did, boo-fucking-hoo, no spinning rims.

    I repeat: Moron.

    Lamb

    Please don’t reply.

    WistfulD

Oh don’t worry, I won’t (beyond this). I know when battles are winnable and when they are not. It’d be interesting to see what your opinions are in ten years. Oh well. Have a nice day.

    mikoyangurevich15

    uTorrent.

    Cy85

The strongest argument I have against torrenting movies is that Netflix has an incredibly diverse library of movies: broad, commercial studio flicks and small, narrow subject indies. A whole bunch of cool documentaries and foreign movies I’d never see otherwise I can stream instantly through Netflix.

The torrenting communities dedicate time and effort to the most popular movies and programs, with varying quality and reliability. At least paying Netflix I’m guaranteed a minimum of quality for my money. I could waste time (and internet usage) downloading a crap copy of something from a website that has three alternate links if I’m lucky.

    Lamb

You need to find a reliable site, man. Wait until a dvd release, and hours later you will have a great quality movie. And I can tell you I found every movie I’ve looked for on torrents, the most obscure titles…

    mightyattom

There is nothing like the movie-going experience of a picture on the big screen, but the rentals are quite nice too when you’re not rich, like most of us!

We have Moviecube in Canada, like Redbox – same thing with the scratches and everything, too many problems!

Netflix is Zip.ca here, what a wonderful movie service and again no late fees, freakin’ awesome!!!

    tiki god

“movie-going experience”…are you talking about the kids crying in the back, the people slobbering all over the over priced food or the horrible quality of the seating?

with the price of home entertainment systems being as low as it is….I’d rather stay home and watch a movie from netflix or a stream from hulu. the surround sound is tweaked to my taste, the television is properly calibrated, and I can kick any bad guests out the door if I wanted to. Can’t do that to the guy eating his chicken fingers two rows down that you can hear him slurping the meat off the bones.
