The way some philosophers talk, especially Nietzsche, there must have been a time when the only way to overcome morality that existed solely due to custom was to be seen openly opposing it and happy doing so — I think that’s where all this ‘pride’ comes from. Where that got mixed up with flagrantly just being uncivilized for the sake of rebellion to the degree that your point is invalidated, that I don’t know either.

It seems like people oppose equality. Everyone just wants their respective allegiance to have a helping hand in some way.
But the common thinking is straight white people are acceptable targets and that’s drilled into everyone’s heads from a very young age now which is sick.
So then you get people pushing back and conflicts erupt.
The fault there doesn’t lay with that girl though.

I understand what you’re saying and I agree, or at least I would have agreed when I lived in NYC. A couple of things have happened since to make it less clear to me.
First, teaching in NYC; the public schools in mostly poor, black/minority areas are atrocious. There is no way that a kid graduating from one of these schools is ready for college. We talk about equality, but these kids are clueless. They don’t even know what to aspire to and the few that do, have no clue how to go about getting himself there.
Second, moving to West Virginia, slightly south of the Mason-Dixon Line. There may be repressed racism in big cities, but here there’s nothing hidden at all. I went to a video store to sign up and asked if they needed a credit card or a deposit and the guy said, “Nah, your white, no problem.” I’ve waited in line at delis and watched white person after white person served w/ the black guy waiting. It’s ridiculous. I’ve also noticed that when a black person speaks up, they’re called uppity and should learn their place. This isn’t 50 years ago, this is last week. Thurmont, MD; the KKK is alive and thriving.
There are huge advantages to being born white and male in America. The only ones that don’t know it are white males. If everyone was born w/ the same possibilities and opportunities as white males, then you’d be 100% correct.

There are always familiar exceptions.
Now if I move into that black neighborhood and speak up with I be uppity? No I won’t have a chance to because I will be shot. Which is worse really?
I know everyone like to point and say white males have it all but I just don’t see it. Usually the only times I hear that are when someone has been caught using their own race to their advantage and are up against a wall (not literally).
Inner city schools are paid for in America by localized tax dollars. Your area pays for the school.
Up here everyone pulls from the same pool. The black schools still suck, are violent, and have consistent lowing graduation rates. I think they’re suffering more so from their own ‘culture’ than anything any white person is doing.
Maybe in your area its polar opposite but up here I’m a minority and this city has never been worse. It should be used as a case study on how combating racism with racism just makes things worse. London England is already coming to the same conclusion.
But me just being a white male stills makes me prime target for accusations of racism. Being straight too and there are people who want to blame me for everything from the a bomb to the ice age.

I guess it’s more complicated than either of us are grasping. I see your point though. I grew up just below Harlem and had many poor minority kids in my elementary school and there were few problems. Once we got into junior high, things were getting pretty bad. Adolescents are fucks and fucked, regardless of race or income level. The high school I went to was a science high school that you had to take a test to get into, even though it was a public school (Stuyvesant, if anyone knows it) and there almost know major race problems. It was a bigger deal to me that I was one of only three girls in my year class. One of my brothers went to the High School of Art and Design (also required a test to get in). There were more problems there. Apparently each floor had its own ethnicity, at least regarding bathrooms.
I don’t know, every time I think I have a grasp of what’s going on, something comes around that forces me to rethink my position.
