Which is exactly why Carlin is unfunny. His entire act just dissolved into a grumpy-old-man, bitter, “gtfoff my lawn” routine.

Other than these two _particular_ sentiments, I couldn’t agree more. I used to enjoy his tidy little observations, and then I watched one of his last stand up performances. Angry, angry man. What a waste.

When he started complaining on our behalf in the sixties, things were bad…it’s gotten a lot worse, and he older, so yeah, anger is what most of us over fifty feel now.

Carlin was using the shock value of his comedy to cajole his audience into looking at things they take for granted in different ways.
It didn’t matter if you agreed with him, he just wanted you to think.
